Description
Masashi Esaka is a supporting character and a member of the Jyoyo Orange High School football team in the series. Often called Osaka by his teammate Kyosuke Kano, Esaka initially comes across as a cheerful, easygoing presence who seems to take everything in stride with a smile on his face. This lighthearted appearance can make him seem like comic relief, but beneath that exterior he is genuinely passionate about the well‑being of his teammates and the overall performance of the team. In terms of background, Esaka has played football since childhood, growing up in a family that runs a sports equipment store, which gave him early exposure to the game. His older brother Tatsuya is a skilled professional player. Esaka himself is known for his speed and agility on the field, though in his early days he was not considered a particularly strong player. What sets him apart is his willingness to learn and his strong drive to improve. This attitude is recognized by both Sako and Kamata, who select Esaka to become the new captain of Jyoyo, acknowledging his excellent approach to the sport and his commitment to the team’s growth. Throughout the series, Esaka faces various challenges, including injuries and personal struggles, which push him to mature and deepen his understanding of teamwork and hard work. Initially having something of a playboy reputation, his focus on football gradually shifts his priorities, leading him to value the collective effort over individual flair. On the pitch, he plays as a forward, using his technical ability and quick movements to get past defenders and create scoring opportunities. Off the pitch, he remains a dependable and dedicated teammate, evolving from a merely humorous figure into a respected leader who embodies the spirit of Jyoyo’s football club.
