TV-Series
Description
Ginei Morioka, often called Gin, is a student at Yōkai Academy and a werewolf. He serves as the former president of the school's Newspaper Club and is a year senior to the protagonist, Tsukune Aono.
Gin has a dual nature that defines his character. On the surface, he is a shameless pervert, often using his supernatural speed to spy on girls or grope his female classmates. He is lazy regarding club duties, frequently leaving all the work to his underclassmen, and his shallow, womanizing behavior has earned him a long list of ex-girlfriends and frequent violent reprisals, particularly from the succubus Kurumu Kurono. Despite this comedic and lecherous exterior, Ginei is deeply loyal and caring. He values his comrades above all else and is willing to endure immense pain or resort to deadly force to protect them.
His background explains this contrast. In his first year at the academy, Ginei was known as Mad Dog Morioka, a violent and bearish student who only cared about fighting. He was reformed by San Otonashi, the former president of the Newspaper Club, who persistently reached out to him. Because of her, he abandoned his meaningless fights and developed genuine, non-perverted romantic feelings for her, a secret known to very few.
In the story, Ginei initially acts as a minor antagonist, framing Tsukune as a peeping tom to eliminate him as a rival for Moka Akashiya's affections. He is quickly defeated by Moka's inner vampire. However, he soon becomes a valuable ally and a senior figure to the main group. His role expands significantly during conflicts, such as when he joins the battle against the Student Police leader Kuyō, demonstrating his immense speed and power to protect his club members. He later plays a crucial role in the fight against the terrorist organization Fairy Tale, infiltrating their base and fighting alongside his old friend Haiji Miyamoto.
Key relationships shape his journey. He shares a close, rivalrous friendship with Haiji Miyamoto, the karate club leader, and the two are a formidable team in battle. He also acts as a sparring instructor for Kurumu and Mizore Shirayuki, though he cannot resist using these sessions as an opportunity to harass them. By the end of the manga, Ginei graduates from Yōkai Academy and takes a job at the seaside inn where San Otonashi lives, implying a continued connection to the person who changed his life.
As a werewolf, Ginei possesses immense speed, which is considered his greatest asset. Under a full moon, his power rivals that of a vampire, and his speed can exceed even Moka's unleashed form. He can transform into an anthropomorphic wolf, gaining enhanced strength, agility, stamina, regeneration, and acute senses. However, his power waxes and wanes with the lunar cycle, and clouds blocking the moon can weaken him. He also has a traditional werewolf weakness to silver. He is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, a skill honed from his days as a violent brawler, and is widely regarded as one of the strongest students at the academy, even when the moon is not full.
