Description
Korutopi is a member of the Phantom Troupe, assigned number twelve, and appears during the Greed Island arc of Hunter x Hunter. He is known as the physically weakest member of the group and is notably short in stature, with a thick, messy mane of blue-gray hair that covers most of his head, leaving only a single bulbous eye visible. He typically wears a light blue tunic and pants.
His personality is reserved and compliant; he speaks little and generally follows the instructions of other Troupe members without question. His primary motivation is to support the Troupe’s operations, particularly through his unique Nen ability. This power allows him to create exact, physical replicas of any non-living object he touches, conjuring a copy through his opposite hand. The copies are visually and tactilely identical to the original but cannot replicate any special properties or Nen effects, and they vanish after approximately twenty-four hours.
In the Greed Island arc, Korutopi and several other Troupe members enter the game with the goal of acquiring rare item cards. During their time on the island, he observes that his copying ability does not function on the game’s magical cards, as their effects cannot be duplicated. He also helps explain the game’s mechanics to fellow member Shizuku, reminding the group that the reward for clearing the game is the ability to take back three specified slot cards into the real world.
Korutopi maintains professional relationships with the rest of the Phantom Troupe, deferring to its leader Chrollo Lucilfer and coordinating with strategists like Shalnark. He does not undergo significant personal development within the Greed Island arc, remaining a supporting figure who applies his replication talent for the Troupe’s benefit. His ability is later used in other story arcs for large-scale deception, such as creating duplicate buildings to confuse pursuers, but his role in Greed Island itself is limited to logistical support and information gathering.
