Description
Biscuit Krueger, often called Bisky by those close to her, is a character who first appears during the Greed Island arc. She is a fifty-seven-year-old woman and a professional Hunter of high standing, holding the rank of Double-Star Stone Hunter, a title that reflects her expertise in acquiring rare gemstones and her significant contributions to the Hunter Association.
On the surface, Biscuit presents herself as a petite, adorable young girl, roughly the same apparent age as Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck. She typically wears a frilly, sleeveless dress with a matching skirt and carries herself with the air of a sweet, if somewhat demanding, child. This appearance is, however, a carefully maintained disguise. Her true form is that of a towering, heavily muscled woman, standing well over two meters tall, with a physique honed by decades of intense martial arts training. This transformation is a Nen ability she uses to conceal her immense power, as she dislikes her real form for being "too buff" and prefers to keep it as a hidden trump card. In her true state, her physical strength becomes overwhelming, capable of defeating most opponents with a single punch.
Despite her advanced age and fearsome true power, Biscuit's personality is complex and often contradictory. She is mischievous, cunning, and prone to whimsy, but also highly authoritative and brutally frank. She becomes easily angered, especially when her age is mentioned or if someone dares to call her "old lady" or "hag," often reacting with immediate violence. She insists on being seen as a "big sister" figure, even though many within the Hunter Association regard her as a motherly presence. Beneath her playful and sometimes shallow exterior—she enjoys reading magazines featuring handsome men and has a noted interest in attractive individuals like Hisoka Morow—lies a deeply serious and dedicated martial artist and instructor.
Biscuit's primary motivation for entering the game of Greed Island was to obtain a rare and beautiful gem called Blue Planet, which could only be found there. Initially, she had no intention of helping Gon and Killua; in fact, she was mildly annoyed by them and planned to have fun by trying to break up their friendship. However, after observing their raw, untapped potential, she found their lack of refinement as Nen users to be an unbearable waste. Comparing them to giant, uncut diamonds and sapphires, she volunteered to become their teacher out of a professional urge to polish their rough talents.
Her role in the story, therefore, shifts from a potential antagonist to a crucial mentor. She becomes the direct instructor of Gon and Killua, taking over from her own former student, Wing. Her training methods are famously spartan and relentless, designed to push the boys to their absolute limits and beyond. Yet, they are also perfectly tailored to their individual abilities, rapidly accelerating their growth in Nen control, combat strategy, and physical conditioning. The relationship she forms with them is a key part of the Greed Island arc. While she is strict and demanding, her guidance is born from a genuine desire to see them succeed and survive. Her dynamic with Killua is particularly entertaining, as his bratty, rebellious attitude clashes with her authoritarian nature, leading to frequent comedic arguments.
Throughout the Greed Island arc, Biscuit's character undergoes a subtle but significant development. She moves from a solitary gem hunter with a fleeting interest in the boys to a committed teacher who takes pride in their progress. Her cold, tactical approach to using them for her own ends warms into a protective, almost parental investment in their safety and future. This development continues in later story arcs, where she reappears during the Chimera Ant arc to further train Gon and Killua, and later accepts a request from Kurapika to act as a bodyguard and Nen instructor for Prince Marayam during the Dark Continent expedition.
Biscuit is a Nen master of the highest caliber, classified as a Transmutation user, though she demonstrates high proficiency in other Nen types as well. Her combat style is rooted in the Heart Source style of martial arts, a school founded by Isaac Netero, of whom she is a direct disciple. Her abilities are divided into two main categories. The first is her Body Transformation, the Nen technique that allows her to switch between her childlike appearance and her true, muscular form at will. The second, and arguably most unique, is her Nen ability called Magical Esthetician. This ability allows her to conjure a humanoid Nen entity named Cookie, who performs a variety of specialized massages. Using a lotion made from transmuted aura, these techniques include chiropractic adjustments, meditation, and rolling massages. The most notable of these is a piano massage called Pink Breath, which can restore eight hours worth of fatigue in just thirty minutes. While this ability has no direct offensive application, it is an extraordinarily powerful support skill, enabling accelerated recovery and near-constant training by drastically reducing the need for sleep and rest.
