Description
Gaki is a character from a feature film. He appears as a major antagonist and is known primarily as a user of the dark power called On. He serves as one of the key subordinates to the main antagonist, Jed, and operates alongside his comrades, Shura and Rengoku.

Gaki has a very distinctive and imposing physical presence. He is a large, muscular man with a blue mohawk and a matching blue goatee, which gives him a fierce and unconventional look. Despite his bulky frame, his appearance is offset by a level of physical agility that defies his size.

His background is rooted in tragedy and a deep-seated hatred for the Hunter Association. In the past, Gaki was a member of a secret Hunter Association black ops squad known as the Shadow. This squad was eventually wiped out by the Association's chairman, Isaac Netero, after its members began using On, a cursed life energy fueled by hatred. Gaki was one of the few survivors of this purge, along with Shura and Rengoku. Following these events, the three survivors were persecuted further, leading them to live as outcasts. According to expanded material, they are from the Imuni clan, a group known for their longevity and unique martial arts. They grew up together as siblings, with Gaki being the second eldest. They adopted names that reflected their suffering, as Gaki meaning famished devil. Their experiences forged an intense grudge, and they eventually revived their former leader, Jed, to exact revenge on the Hunter Association and force the disclosure of the Black Report, a document detailing the Association's past crimes.

In terms of personality, Gaki is driven primarily by his hatred, which is the source of his power. However, he is not portrayed as a mindless brute. He possesses a great deal of pride in his combat abilities and seems to enjoy the thrill of a good fight. When facing Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck, he shows a competitive spirit and even a grudging respect for their skills. This side of his personality emerges after the battle when he engages in friendly banter with his opponents, acknowledging their strength and suggesting that Zushi, their friend, has potential to grow. This moment reveals that beneath his vengeful exterior lies a character who might have been capable of friendship under different circumstances.

Gaki's primary role in the story is as a powerful physical obstacle for the protagonists. During the Battle Olympia tournament at Heaven's Arena, he easily defeats Zushi, a skilled young fighter, and proceeds to confront Gon and Killua. His mission is to prevent them from interfering with Jed's larger plan to capture Netero and seize control of the arena. He engages both boys in a prolonged and difficult battle, demonstrating his superiority for most of the fight. The conclusion of his role is tragic. After being defeated by Gon and Killua, the conditions of his On covenant activate, causing his body to self-destruct. His death is presented as a poignant moment, as it happens just after he had shared a moment of mutual respect and camaraderie with his former enemies.

His key relationships are central to his motivation. He is fiercely loyal to his leader, Jed, and his comrades, Shura and Rengoku, who are also his siblings. Their shared trauma and goal for revenge bind them together. His death has a profound effect on Rengoku, and it is the memory of Gaki and his kindness that ultimately helps Killua reach her and convince her to abandon her hatred.

Throughout the film, Gaki does not undergo a significant change in his goals, but a development in his perspective is noticeable. He starts as a vengeful enemy of all Hunters, but his final exchange with Gon and Killua shows a crack in that worldview. He begins to see that not all Hunters are the enemy he had believed them to be, recognizing their honor and skill before his life ends.

Gaki is an exceptionally formidable fighter, possessing superhuman physical attributes. He has immense strength, capable of crushing military tanks with ease. His speed and agility are also highly advanced, allowing him to keep pace with and even overpower fast opponents like Killua and Gon in close-quarters combat. His durability and stamina are remarkable; he can withstand powerful blows without injury and fight continuously against multiple powerful opponents without showing fatigue. Killua considers Gaki his equal in hand-to-hand combat. As an On user, Gaki has access to all categories of Nen. Killua assesses that he possesses the mastery of an Enhancer, a Transmuter, and an Emitter, while also demonstrating noteworthy skill in Manipulation. This makes him a deadly threat at any range, capable of overwhelming his enemies with brute force, versatile aura attacks, and tactical close-quarters skill.
