Description
Cecile Croomy is a Britannian scientist and military officer who plays a supporting role as a developer and liaison for the Lancelot, a advanced prototype Knightmare Frame. Born on September 7, 1993, she is 24 years old at the start of the story and turns 25 later on. She is a tall woman with neck-length indigo hair and light blue eyes, often seen wearing the same orange uniform as the Lancelot's pilot, Suzaku Kururugi. Before joining the military, she studied at the Imperial Colchester Institute.
In terms of personality, Cecile is generally a kind, compassionate, and somewhat shy individual. She treats those around her with courtesy and respect, including Suzaku despite his status as an Eleven, a term for a native of the conquered Area 11. However, she is not weak-willed and possesses a sharp, authoritative edge when the situation calls for it. She frequently acts as the moral compass and conscience for her eccentric superior, Lloyd Asplund, and does not hesitate to scold him or even deliver physical punishment for his callous or socially inappropriate remarks. A recurring and humorous aspect of her character is her disastrous skill in cooking; she creates unusual recipes without realizing how unpalatable they are, such as rice balls mixed with blueberry jam and sandwiches containing ginger, sugar, and wasabi.
Her primary motivation is rooted in her work and her sense of responsibility. As a gifted scientist, she is dedicated to the advancement of military technology, but she is also deeply concerned with the well-being of the pilots who must use it. She disapproves of Lloyd's tendency to push Suzaku to the limits of the Lancelot without apparent regard for his safety.
Cecile's role in the story is closely tied to the Special Dispatch Guided Technology Development Bureau, also known as the "Specially Dispached," a unit created to field-test new Knightmare Frames. She serves as Lloyd Asplund's assistant and is one of the principal developers of the Lancelot. After the Black Rebellion, when Suzaku is promoted to Knight of the Round, the team is reorganized into a new unit called Camelot, where Cecile becomes the deputy director. She also serves as a combat liaison and operator when the Lancelot is deployed.
Her key relationships define much of her screen time. She works most closely with Lloyd Asplund, with whom she shares a professional but bantering partnership; while she respects his genius, she serves as a constant check on his lack of empathy. She is a good friend to Suzaku Kururugi, often helping him with his schoolwork and acting as a supportive figure in his life. The R2 picture dramas reveal that she harbors strong romantic feelings for Suzaku, confiding to C.C. that she loves him. She also has a professional relationship with the Black Knights' scientist, Rakshata Chawla, as both are leading figures in rival Knightmare development programs.
Throughout the story, Cecile demonstrates notable development from a supportive but secondary technical officer to a more active and pivotal participant in the final stages of the conflict. While she begins primarily as a support staff member, she is shown to be a capable Knightmare Frame pilot, single-handedly holding off an assault on Ashford Academy during the Black Rebellion using a customized Sutherland. Her scientific abilities are also significant; she is the designer of the Energy Wing system, a revolutionary propulsion and combat system used on advanced machines like the Lancelot Albion and the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements-Type. In the final arc, following Lelouch vi Britannia's ascension to the throne, Cecile makes a conscious choice to support him. She becomes aware of and assists in the Zero Requiem, the final grand plan, helping to develop the Lancelot Albion and later working with Nina Einstein to create a countermeasure for the F.L.E.I.J.A. weapon. After the Zero Requiem is completed, she leaves military service and, with the support of Nunnally vi Britannia, later becomes the chief director of the Britannia Memorial Museum.
