Description
Nagata is a minor character in the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. He is a Japanese man with long black hair and gray eyes. Before the Britannian invasion of Japan, he worked as a potter and was married with a daughter. He lost his wife and daughter during the war, which drove him to join the Ohgi Group, a resistance cell fighting against Britannian rule. During the Shinjuku Incident, Nagata partnered with Kallen Kozuki to steal a container they believed held poison gas, but which actually contained the immortal girl C.C. Nagata drove the trailer while Kallen piloted a Knightmare frame. During a pursuit by Britannian forces, Nagata was severely injured by gunfire from Villetta Nu's Sutherland. Despite his injuries, he managed to steer the truck into an abandoned subway tunnel. When Britannian soldiers surrounded the vehicle and aimed at Lelouch Lamperouge, who had accidentally freed C.C. from the container, Nagata made a final decision. Proclaiming "Long live Japan," he triggered an explosion that destroyed the truck and himself. His sacrifice created a diversion that allowed Lelouch and C.C. to escape, inadvertently setting the stage for the formation of the Black Knights. Nagata's personality is defined by his deep patriotism and bitterness toward Britannia, stemming from the loss of his family. He is a dedicated but ordinary man, not a skilled fighter, whose most notable act is his willingness to give his life for the cause of Japanese liberation. His role in the story is brief but crucial, as his death directly facilitates Lelouch's acquisition of Geass and the beginning of his rebellion. Nagata does not undergo significant character development due to his early death, but his backstory and final act illustrate the human cost of Britannia's oppression and the desperation of the resistance.
