Description
The Raikage of Naruto Shippūden, known by the title name A, is the Fourth Raikage of Kumogakure, the hidden village of the Land of Lightning. He is the biological son of the Third Raikage and the adopted elder brother of Killer B, the jinchūriki of the Eight-Tails, and together the two form a famous partnership known as the AB Combo. The name A is an inherited title passed down through generations of Kumogakure's leaders, and it traditionally pairs with the name B given to the Raikage's chosen partner. A is among the most physically imposing characters in the series, standing close to two meters tall with a heavily muscular build, dark skin, long blonde hair, a thick goatee, and dark sunglasses, and he wears the white Kage robe marked with the kanji for lightning.
A's personality is defined by an explosive temper and impulsive aggression. He is relentlessly hot-blooded, speaks with barely contained intensity, and prefers direct confrontation over diplomacy, and he is known for breaking through walls and windows instead of using doors. His readiness to resort to force is well known among the hidden villages. Beneath this volatile exterior lies a deep sense of duty and fierce loyalty, most powerfully directed at his brother Killer B, whom he regards as family rather than as a weapon for the village. His primary motivations are the protection of his brother and his village, and past losses of comrades have made him stubborn and uncompromising in pursuing that goal.
A's role in the story is centered on the Five Kage Summit and the Fourth Great Ninja War. When Akatsuki is believed to have captured Killer B, A calls for the meeting of the Five Kage and demands decisive action against the organization, clashing with the more cautious leaders of the other villages. When Sasuke Uchiha attacks the summit, A fights him directly, and his lightning-enhanced speed pushes Sasuke to his limits. During the battle, Sasuke ignites A's arm with the black flames of Amaterasu, and A severs the limb with his own hand rather than allow the fire to consume him, a decision that leaves a permanent mark and demonstrates his willingness to sacrifice anything for victory. Later, A is appointed Supreme Commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces, uniting the five great nations against Akatsuki and Madara Uchiha. He fights alongside the other four Kage against Madara on the battlefield, and he eventually acknowledges Naruto Uzumaki's strength and resolve, allowing the young ninja to join the war and referring to him as the possible savior of the shinobi world. After the war ends, A steps down as Raikage and appoints his trusted subordinate Darui as the Fifth Raikage, retiring in favor of a new era of peace.
In terms of relationships, A's bond with Killer B is the emotional core of his character. Despite B's difficult life as a jinchūriki, A always stood beside him and promised never to sacrifice his brother for the village, and during the war they fight side by side with perfect synchronization. Darui serves as his calm and reliable right hand and eventually inherits his position. A's father, the Third Raikage, is both a predecessor and a source of technique, and A inherited skills such as the Hell Stab from him. The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, was once a rival on the battlefield, and A considered him one of the few shinobi faster than himself.
A's notable abilities revolve around the Lightning Release Chakra Mode, a technique that coats his entire body in a shroud of lightning-natured chakra. This shroud greatly heightens his speed, reflexes, strength, and durability, making his speed comparable to that of Minato and earning him a reputation as one of the fastest ninja of his generation. The lightning armor also acts as a defensive barrier that shocks opponents on contact. His signature offensive technique is the Lariat, a devastating clothesline strike delivered at top speed, and he can perform it in synchronization with Killer B as the Double Lariat. He also uses the Hell Stab, a lightning-infused finger thrust inherited from his father, and even without chakra enhancement his raw physical strength is enormous, allowing him to hurl massive stone pillars and send opponents flying through walls. His fighting style combines ninjutsu and taijutsu into an aggressive close-quarters combat approach, and even after losing an arm he continues to fight at a high level, showing exceptional endurance and adaptability.
