TV-Series
Description
Nanmo, also written as Nammo, is a small robot that assists the protagonists Kei and Yuri throughout the television series and the OVA Affair of Nolandia. It is never explicitly stated whether Nanmo is personally owned by the two women or assigned to them by the World Welfare Works Association. The robot is generally referred to in the feminine and its name is an acronym that stands for Navigator And Memory of Mechanical Organism.

Physically, Nanmo has a vaguely egg‑shaped body and is distinguished by two large red shoes. It possesses a single visible arm, which it uses to manipulate objects and tools, and is capable of flight even in the vacuum of space. Nanmo does not speak a human language but communicates entirely through a series of beeps and whistles, a method that proves highly effective with the team’s coeurl companion, Mughi. Over the course of the series, the two develop a close rapport and work together smoothly.

Nanmo’s primary role is that of a versatile support unit. It can repair and pilot the team’s ship, operate its weapons, defuse explosives, and handle hand weapons when necessary. Its abilities make it an invaluable asset during missions, often handling technical or dangerous tasks that require precision or a small frame. The robot’s motivation appears to be a straightforward programming of loyalty and assistance; it consistently follows the directives of Kei and Yuri without hesitation and shows no signs of independent ambition or personal conflict.

In terms of story presence, Nanmo appears regularly in the 1985 television series and is also featured in the OVA Affair of Nolandia. After that OVA, the robot is not seen again in the anime, and it does not appear in the original light novels at all. Its relationship with the main characters is purely functional but amicable; Nanmo is a dependable partner that enhances the efficiency of the Dirty Pair, and its departure from the narrative goes unexplained, leaving its ultimate fate ambiguous. Despite the limited screen time, Nanmo remains a memorable element of the franchise as the small, capable mechanical sidekick that quietly supports the chaos‑prone Lovely Angels.
