Description
Queen Nehellenia is the principal antagonist of the anime season Sailor Moon SuperS and the ruler of the Dead Moon, a dark realm that exists as a shadow counterpart to the Moon Kingdom. She commands the Dead Moon Circus, a traveling troupe that arrives on Earth during a solar eclipse to invade the dreams of sleeping people and harvest their dream mirrors.
Her background is rooted in tragedy and vanity. Long ago, she reigned over a lonely kingdom located on a cold asteroid in the darkness, where she was adored by her subjects but had no true friends or loved ones. Because of this isolation, she came to love only herself, and her beauty became the center of her identity. When she asked an enchanted mirror to show her future, it revealed that she would one day grow old and lose her looks. Terrified by this vision, she became obsessed with staying young and beautiful forever. To preserve her youth, she consumed the dreams of her own subjects, transforming them into hollow servants known as Lemures, and from them she built the Dead Moon Circus. When Helios refused to give her the crystal, she kidnapped him and imprisoned him, and he later escaped into the dream world as the winged horse Pegasus. Queen Serenity eventually sealed Nehellenia inside a mirror, but before the seal was complete, Nehellenia cursed the Moon Kingdom to fall, a curse that contributed to the destruction of the Silver Millennium.
