Description
Meguru Akiba is a supporting character in the Kannagi series, known for being a friend of the protagonist, Jin, and a fellow student at their school. He is a teenager with blond or yellow hair that reaches his ears and brown eyes, and he sometimes wears an earring. As a student, Meguru is one of the three male members of the school's art club. He has dedicated himself to drawing manga and dreams of becoming an excellent manga artist, also creating doujinshi in his free time.

Meguru possesses a strong otaku disposition and is deeply knowledgeable about various facets of otaku culture. Despite this, his personality is marked by a layer of self-denial regarding his hobbies. He claims to have joined the art club instead of the manga club because he could not tolerate the stereotypical behavior of its otaku members, even though he is quite clearly an otaku himself. This contradiction is a defining trait, as he often tries to downplay his expertise by insisting he is just an ordinary person with little knowledge on a subject. However, once a topic that captures his interest is ignited, he cannot help but unleash a torrent of detailed and rapid-fire information, speaking so quickly that those around him eventually tune him out and ignore his speeches.

Meguru’s role in the story is primarily that of a comedic friend and classmate to Jin. He is often seen in the art club room, providing a grounded school-life element to the supernatural narrative. His key relationships are with the other members of the art club, particularly his two female clubmates, Takako Kimura and Shino Okouchi. This trio forms a tight-knit group, frequently hanging out together. Their dynamic involves Takako, who is the club president, often teasing and pushing Meguru’s buttons, while the quieter Shino acts as the straight man to his antics. Through his connection to Jin, Meguru also becomes tangentially involved with the divine affairs surrounding Nagi, such as providing her with recordings of her favorite idol broadcasts.

Meguru does not undergo a major dramatic development arc, instead serving as a consistent source of comic relief and otaku perspective. His development is more about the gradual revelation of his deep-seated passions despite his attempts to appear detached. A notable ability, beyond his artistic skill in drawing manga, is his capacity to recall and recite vast amounts of detailed information about his niche interests at an incredibly fast pace, a trait that often leaves his friends amused or bewildered.
