Description
Kenji Yanagimoto is a student at Ousai Private Academy, first appearing as a first-year classmate of Takatoshi Tsuda and Mutsumi Mitsuba before advancing to the second year. He sports short grey-black spiky hair and half-rimmed glasses, standing at a height comparable to Takatoshi.

His enrollment at Ousai Academy stemmed specifically from its recent transition from an all-girls school to co-education, creating a heavily skewed female-to-male ratio. Kenji anticipated this imbalance would boost his chances of romantic attention, particularly hoping for gifts like Valentine's Day chocolates. This motivation places him among the early-series "harem-seekers." These expectations often went unmet, highlighted by repeated failures to receive chocolates despite his grooming efforts, though he did eventually receive casual chocolate from Chiri Nakazato on one occasion.

Kenji expressed jealousy towards Takatoshi's position as the sole male representative on the primarily female Student Council. He verbally wished to take Takatoshi's place but declined when actually offered the position, acknowledging the role's difficulties and workload, much to Takatoshi's irritation.

Despite his initial romantic ambitions, Kenji settles into a relatively ordinary demeanor compared to the series' more eccentric characters. He maintains typical teenage interests, discussing video games and academic concerns with Takatoshi, who values these normal interactions amidst the unconventional Student Council environment. Kenji occasionally serves as a comedic foil (boke) but also delivers retorts (tsukkomi), notably chastising Takatoshi for misinterpreting female attention during a tennis doubles competition.

His relationships include a regular friendship with Takatoshi and casual associations with classmates like Mutsumi Mitsuba and Chiri Nakazato. The Japanese fandom frequently pairs him with Chiri, though their depicted interactions remain limited. Kenji holds the position of director for the school's movie club, though his involvement in this role is minimally documented.

His character development across the series is subtle, with his harem-seeking aspirations gradually downplayed in favor of routine school life. He remains a recurring but infrequently featured supporting character, with significantly fewer speaking roles relative to the main cast.
