Description
Keita Suminoe is the main protagonist, a teenage boy who navigates a highly unusual family dynamic as the younger stepbrother of the twins Ako and Riko. His biological mother passed away when he was young, and his father remarried a woman who already had twin daughters, forming the current Suminoe household. He is initially introduced as a third-year middle school student, around fifteen years old, and eventually advances to first-year high school. Physically, Keita has a distinctive appearance with spiky blue hair and matching blue eyes, and due to his past as a member of the track and field club, he maintains an athletic and fit build.
In terms of personality, despite being the youngest of the three children, Keita is often portrayed as the most mature and grounded member of the sibling trio. He possesses strong moral principles and a sense of dignity, which makes him frequently flustered and resistant to the persistent and overt advances of his two older step-sisters. Keita is more naturally inclined toward athletics than academics; while his grades are not as high as Ako's, he performs significantly better than Riko in their studies. His moral compass tends to weaken over time due to the constant barrage of provocative situations created by Ako and Riko, and while he tries his hardest to resist temptation, he has a tendency to give in to the moment if he is pushed too far. He also has a notable weakness for alcohol, as drinking makes him become lively and proactive, though he typically cannot remember his actions after sobering up.
Keita's primary motivation throughout the story is largely influenced by his feelings for his step-sisters. Although he is initially annoyed by their antics and originally planned to rely on a track scholarship to attend a different high school, he changes his mind and dedicates himself to studying hard so he can pass the entrance exam for the same high school that Ako and Riko attend. This decision stems from his deep-seated love for them and a desire not to leave them feeling lonely. A key piece of backstory reveals that as a child, Keita was so infatuated with his sisters that he used all of his saved money to pray that he could marry both of them. He later lost this childhood infatuation, described as "growing up," after his father informed him that polygamy is illegal.
Keita's role in the story centers on his daily life managing his complicated relationships and the romantic tension that surrounds him. He serves as the focal point for the affections of several female characters. His relationship with his step-sisters is the most central. He loves Ako deeply, appreciates her homemaking skills and cooking, and often turns to her for help with his homework. With Riko, he shares a more openly physical dynamic, as she is bolder in her advances, and he sometimes enjoys turning the tables to dominate her in return. He is fiercely defensive of both, becoming upset at the thought of them dating others or anyone else seeing them in revealing clothing. His relationship with his parents is also notable; his father is a figure he often yells with but ultimately loves and respects, and his parents are portrayed as having a shockingly permissive and supportive attitude toward the childrens relationships.
Beyond his family, Keita develops significant relationships with other characters, particularly after entering high school. He grows close to Miharu Mikuni, a shy classmate for whom he develops a protective and growing attraction. He also has a complex romantic relationship with his homeroom teacher, Yuzuki Kiryu, whom he initially met before she became a teacher; after a period of growing attraction, they officially become a couple, though this relationship eventually ends in a breakup. His best male friend is Toda Edogawa, with whom he shares a camaraderie that involves frequent annoyance at Todas assumptions about Keitas home life.
Throughout the series, Keita undergoes a notable development. He starts as a boy who dislikes himself for becoming attracted to his step-sisters but gradually becomes more proactive in acknowledging and acting on his own desires. He evolves from a resistant and often-annoyed younger brother to a more active participant in the various romantic entanglements that define his high school experience. His primary notable ability is his athleticism, a trait that defines his physicality and is a key part of his background as a track club member, though his main challenge remains navigating the emotionally and physically charged environment created by the people around him.
