Description
Guy Cecil is a central character known for his role as the loyal best friend and servant to the protagonist, Luke fon Fabre. His true name is Gailardia Galan Gardios, and he hails from the city of Hod in the Malkuth Empire. Following the destruction of his homeland in a war, he assumed a false identity and infiltrated the Fabre household in the kingdom of Kimlasca, where he serves as Luke's attendant and caretaker. His primary motivations are deeply rooted in this traumatic past, as he initially sought revenge against Duke Fabre, Luke's father, for ordering the annihilation of his family and people. However, as the story progresses, his friendship with Luke causes him to question and ultimately abandon his vengeful plans, choosing instead to protect his friend.
In terms of personality, Guy is generally amicable, hardworking, and easygoing, often acting as a voice of reason and a pillar of support for the group. He possesses a charming manner of speech and often unintentionally attracts the affection of women with his kind words. This creates a distinct internal conflict, as he suffers from severe gynophobia, an intense fear of physical contact with women. This phobia stems from a childhood trauma where he was buried under the bodies of his elder sister and other female relatives as they died protecting him during the massacre of his house. Despite this fear, he remains chivalrous and will overcome his reflex to help a woman in genuine danger, such as saving his young companion Anise from a fall. He is also portrayed as intelligent, pragmatic, and possessing a notable obsession with fonic technology, the primary machinery of his world.
Throughout the story, Guy serves as a crucial emotional anchor for Luke, especially after the protagonist commits a catastrophic failure. While most of the party abandons Luke in disgust, Guy is the first to return and offer his support, believing in Luke's capacity to change. His key relationships include his complicated history with Van Grants, who was once a retainer to Guy's family, and his distinct animosity towards Asch, the original Luke, whom he refuses to accept as his friend. A significant moment in his development occurs when he is placed under a cursed slot by the antagonist Sync, which lowers his inhibitions and nearly causes him to kill Luke. This event forces him to confess his true past and his suppressed hatred, leading to a catharsis where his friends forgive him and he actively begins to work through his trauma and phobia. By the game's conclusion, he reconciles with his past and reclaims his noble title as the head of the Gardios family.
In combat, Guy is a highly agile swordsman who utilizes the Sigmund Style, a technique where he wields a sword in his right hand and the sword's sheath in his left. This style focuses on speed, rapid successive attacks, and evasion rather than raw power, making him very different from the more strength-oriented Luke. His notable abilities include signature artes such as Sword Rain: Alpha and Tempest, as well as the healing arte Center, which allows him to recover his own health during battle. He is also capable of using powerful mystic artes, including Razing Phoenix and Brilliant Overlord, which showcase his refined technique.
