Description
Braiking Boss is the former supreme leader and commander of the robot army in Casshern Sins. His reign represents the height of robotic dominance, a period in which machines subjugated humanity completely. However, his fear of losing power directly leads to the apocalyptic state of the world. Dismayed that the human race summoned a savior named Luna, whom robots also began to worship, Braiking Boss deemed her a threat to his absolute control. To eliminate her, he deployed his three most powerful warriors: Casshern, Dio, and Leda. While Casshern succeeded in assassinating Luna, this act triggered a catastrophic event known as the Ruin, a global curse that caused the planet to decay and forced all robots to slowly rust and face death for the first time.

Physically, Braiking Boss is an imposing and heavyset figure. He is often seen shrouded in a large, dark, tattered cloak that obscures his form. The right side of his face is covered in synthetic skin, but the left side is a featureless expanse of black metal with large bolts running along his neck and head. He has no left eye, only a hollow socket, and his remaining eye glows a distinct light red, giving him a perpetually leering and calculating expression as he observes the world from a distance.

In terms of personality, Braiking Boss embodies a regal and philosophical demeanor. Despite his origin as a conqueror, he possesses a surprisingly strong sense of responsibility toward his own followers. He personally ensures that graves are dug for his fallen soldiers, demonstrating a paternal care for the robots under his command. He views the world through a kingly lens, believing that it is his duty to bear the weight of his subordinates' suffering and actions. After the Ruin destroys his empire, he does not rage against his fate. Instead, he adopts a patient, almost detached perspective, following Casshern from afar to witness how his former soldier navigates the consequences of the assassination he ordered. He is a master of psychological manipulation, using taunts and cryptic statements to provoke others and reveal their true natures.

The character's motivation shifts as the story progresses. Initially, his sole drive is the maintenance of power, which leads to the catastrophic order to kill Luna. This act is, in retrospect, a Pyrrhic victory that destroys his empire, spreads ruin to his own body, and causes most of his followers to abandon him. Later, his motivations evolve into a form of passive observation and, ultimately, atonement. He dismisses the rampant rumors that devouring Casshern will grant salvation, preferring to watch events unfold. His primary relationship is, of course, with Casshern. While Casshern was once just a tool, Braiking Boss later accepts his former subordinate as the agent of his own final judgment. He also shares a complex history with the scientist Ohji, who created the warrior trio under his orders, and interacts with his other creations, Dio and Leda, as they attempt to usurp his fallen empire.

Braiking Boss undergoes notable development from a tyrant to a figure seeking justice. Having caused the destruction of the world, he comes to accept that he must pay for his sins. In the series' climax, he finally meets with the reborn Luna but does not seek her salvation. When Casshern returns and destroys what remains of his army, Braiking Boss engages in a hopeless final fight. He fights not to win, but to face the consequences of his past. Defeated, his last words are a command for Casshern to kill Luna once more, not out of malice, but to atone for his original sin of causing the Ruin. Believing his death at the hands of his own creation to be a form of divine retribution, he dies content, having finally received the justice he felt he deserved.

Regarding his abilities, Braiking Boss is a profoundly powerful robot from a bygone era. While the series does not showcase him in extensive combat, he is able to fight Casshern directly, even if hopelessly. His movements are described as slow, sturdy, and fluid, indicating raw, unyielding strength and durability rather than speed. However, his most notable trait is his sheer presence and the authority he commands, which persists even after his empire has crumbled to dust.
