Description
Kyuo Lyu is a former member of the Septia troupe Phantom, a group of trained hunters who captured and tamed demon-beasts for society. Her grandfather, Jin Stolla, was Phantom’s leader and regarded as one of the greatest Septias. When Phantom pursued the legendary King of the Moon, a demon-beast whose strength and regeneration were unstoppable under moonlight, the entire unit was wiped out in a single night. Kyuo discovered the corpses the next morning and buried them. Seeking revenge, she returned to Kuruda and tried to hire thugs to help her kill the beast, but she was nearly assaulted herself until Elle Ragu and Gau Ban intervened. Kyuo then hired the pair to assist her, startling them by revealing she wanted the creature dead rather than captured—a goal contrary to a Septia’s usual purpose.
During the hunt, Kyuo demonstrated remarkable skill in setting traps and handling chulinks, chakram-like rings used as focal points for controlling traps and as throwing weapons attached to cords. Her traps ultimately pinned the King of the Moon until sunrise, allowing it to be killed. With her revenge complete, Kyuo had no direction, so Elle invited her to join their group.
Kyuo is often considered the weakest member compared to Elle and Gau’s Shadow Skills and Faury’s Sui Rem talisman magic. This insecurity is compounded by horrific scars on her arms from early training mishaps. She develops feelings for Gau, but he remains oblivious, while the Vaar Lowengren falls in love with her—a sentiment she does not reciprocate. After the Lightning Battle, Kyuo spends time alone with Gau, but his rapid progress leaves her afraid of being left behind. To grow stronger, she masters the Tomoway, a style of chulink-throwing and opponent-capturing that her grandfather was famous for.
Later, she encounters Iba Stolla, the 55th Sevaar and king of Kuruda, who reveals himself as her granduncle and Jin’s twin brother. He promises to protect her until she finds a man who will love and care for her. When the warrior G attacks, Kyuo places herself on the frontline to protect Gau, but she is nearly killed. Gau, upon finding her bloody and near death, flies into a rage and attacks G.
Near the end of the series, Kyuo suspects that Gau is more than just a brother to Elle, and she confronts Elle during Solfon’s attack on Kuruda, though their quarrel is cut short. After Elle and Gau are exiled, Kyuo follows them from the shadows to keep watch. Her abilities include expert trap-setting, chulink combat, and eventually the genealogical Tomoway technique. She is driven by a desire for revenge, a need to belong, and a determination not to be left behind by her companions.
