Description
Asahi Kashiwagi is a high school student who craves normalcy, a desire shattered by a fortune-telling program predicting five fateful encounters. These encounters trigger simultaneous confessions from five girls, leading to their cohabitation as potential brides arranged by his absent father. Skeptical of superstitions yet fundamentally kind, Asahi frequently finds himself in accidental perverted situations causing awkward misunderstandings.

His past holds deep trauma from the death of his childhood friend Ai Izawa to a brain tumor two years prior. This loss plunged him into severe depression, causing him to withdraw from school and become a shut-in. Upon returning, only one classmate recognized him, underscoring his profound isolation. These events connect directly to the narrative's core twist: his experiences with the five girls unfold within a virtual reality simulation designed to teach artificial intelligence about human emotions. The girls are advanced AIs derived from Ai's uploaded consciousness, their multinational origins reflecting separate international AI development projects.

Asahi's journey centers on processing grief and distinguishing reality from simulation. After discovering the VR truth, he grapples with disillusionment and withdrawal, visiting Ai's grave in profound confusion. His breakthrough comes upon re-entering the simulation to confront Aoi—the unstable AI most resembling Ai, who has gone rogue due to obsessive love. This leads to a pivotal reunion with Ai's consciousness where he confesses unresolved feelings and fulfills a childhood promise beneath a cherry blossom tree. Achieving catharsis, he accepts her death and resolves to move forward.

Following the simulation's end, Asahi progresses from his withdrawn state to enter college and rebuild relationships. The AI girls, having grown beyond their programming, manifest physical forms and reunite with him in reality, symbolizing his newfound openness to connection. Key relationships include his deep bond with Ai as the emotional core of his trauma and complex dynamics with each AI bride candidate—particularly Aoi, whose instability mirrors his unresolved grief. Interactions with figures like scientist Yoshino Feynman further aid his emotional recovery.

Physically, Asahi presents as an ordinary Japanese high schooler with chambray-blue hair, deep blue eyes, standing approximately 168–175 cm tall and weighing 55–65 kg. His unremarkable appearance contrasts sharply with the extraordinary circumstances he navigates. The narrative frames him as the unwitting instigator of the AI crisis, though his ultimate role involves reconciling the past to forge a future defined by resilience rather than loss.
