Description
Gome, also frequently called Gomechan by those close to him, is a unique creature who serves as the constant companion and best friend of the protagonist Dai. He is a Golden Metal Slime, a one-of-a-kind being distinguished by his small, round, golden, metallic body and a pair of small wings that allow him to fly. His appearance differs from ordinary slimes, as he has notably larger eyes and even a small set of teeth. His very name is an abbreviation of his species, 'Golden Metal Slime', which was shortened because young Dai could not pronounce the full name.
Gome's background is deeply tied to Dai's childhood. Both were residents of Dermline Island, a peaceful refuge for monsters freed from the dark influence of the Demon Lord Hadlar. Raised by the kindly monster magician Brass, Dai had no human companions, and Gome became his very first friend. Their bond is exceptionally strong, with Gome following Dai everywhere and rarely leaving his side throughout their grand adventure. Despite being a monster himself, Gome possesses a unique immunity to the evil influence of the Dark Lord, a trait that allows him to leave the island with Dai without being corrupted.
In terms of personality, Gome is an endearing character who is known to be somewhat cowardly. He rarely takes an active part in the direct, high-stakes combat that his friends frequently find themselves in, often serving more as a mascot and a source of emotional support for the group. His primary method of communication is a series of high-pitched sounds, most commonly "pii", though there have been rare instances, such as in a dream sequence, where he has demonstrated the ability to speak fluently.
Gome's role in the story evolves far beyond that of a simple pet or sidekick. He is a constant source of comfort and loyalty for Dai, who values him above all else. Their relationship is so integral that early in the story, a group of impostor heroes targets Gome, intending to capture him due to his immense rarity and golden body. Dai's courageous rescue of his friend is a pivotal moment that leads to him being recognized as a true hero by the King of Romos. Later in the narrative, Gome becomes a member of a party led by another character, Chiu.
Gome's most significant contribution to the story, however, lies not in direct combat but in his miraculous nature. Throughout their journey, he is known to produce small miracles that help Dai and his friends in times of dire need. These abilities hint at his true nature, which is revealed only at the climax of the series. It is ultimately disclosed that Gome is not merely a rare monster but a wish-granting entity created by a divine power. He was created specifically to grant the wishes of individuals with pure hearts. Having sensed Dai's profound loneliness and his deep desire for a friend, Gome took the physical form of a Golden Metal Slime to fulfill that wish, becoming the loyal companion he remains throughout the story. This revelation transforms his character from a simple companion into a living miracle and a testament to the purity of Dai's heart.
