TV-Series
Description
Raina Cromwell is an adult male Dragonaut associated with the International Solarsystem Development Agency, where he serves as the leader of the Lindworm Unit. He has blue eyes and shoulder-length green hair, and he presents a handsome and composed appearance that makes him well suited to public-facing duties. Before becoming a Dragonaut, Raina worked as a shuttle pilot alongside Eiji Kamishina, the father of the main character Jin Kamishina. It was Eiji who recommended Raina for the D-Project, the initiative that produces Dragonauts, and Raina joined the program in order to test his own potential. His dragon partner is Howlingstar, a dragon whose communicator was modeled after the younger Eiji, a figure Raina admired.

Personality-wise, Raina is described as sharp and capable yet usually easygoing in his manner. He is calm, collected, and levelheaded, but he also has an inscrutable side; others often cannot tell what he is thinking, and he possesses a scheming, strategic streak. Because he is handsome and well received by the public, he serves as the public representative of the Dragonauts and frequently appears on television, where he is popular with fans and often receives gifts during public appearances.

Within the story, Raina is the star of the Lindworm Unit and acts as its leader and tactician, taking charge of strategy and tactics during operations. Early in the series, his interactions with Garnet MacLaine carry hints of possible covert activity, although that thread does not develop into an actual espionage plot. His connection to the Kamishina family is significant: he was mentored by Jin's father, and he shows genuine interest in the path Jin chooses, suggesting a bond of respect and watchfulness toward his mentor's son. His relationship with Howlingstar is central to his identity as a Dragonaut, as the two operate together in combat.

Later in the story, after the ISDA falls under the command of the Gillard faction, Raina and Howlingstar defect from the organization, a decision that marks a notable shift in his loyalties and places him on a different course from the agency he once represented. His notable abilities lie primarily in his sharp intellect, his strategic and tactical leadership within the unit, and his skill as a pilot and Dragonaut, all of which he combines with a calm demeanor that allows him to function effectively as both a combatant and the public face of the Dragonaut program.
