Description
Laika is a Net Savior from the cold nation of Sharo, and he operates the NetNavi SearchMan. He first appears in the anime series Rockman.EXE Axess and continues as a supporting character in Rockman.EXE Stream, Rockman.EXE Beast, and Rockman.EXE Beast+. Laika is introduced as a highly disciplined and mission-focused operator who relies entirely on traditional NetNavi battling techniques. He initially views Cross Fusion as an unnecessary and unwanted technology, and he openly criticizes the Japanese Net Saviors for what he sees as overreliance on such methods. His early interactions with Netto Hikari are marked by condescension and dismissal, as he considers himself a far superior Net Savior.
Over time, Laika's rigid attitude begins to soften. The turning point occurs when Rockman saves SearchMan from a Darkloid using Soul Unison, which earns Netto a measure of Laika's respect. Netto's persistent friendly demeanor gradually wears down Laika's stone exterior, and he eventually comes to respect Netto in a manner similar to how he respects Enzan Ijuuin. By the events of Stream, Laika has accepted Cross Fusion and gains the ability to use it himself, becoming part of a trio of Cross Fusion users alongside Netto and Enzan. He also develops a romantic interest in Princess Pride during this period.
During Rockman.EXE Beast, Laika begins training with the new Link PETs to enhance his Cross Fusion abilities. When the two legendary cyber beasts, Greiga and Falzer, emerge from the alternate world known as Beyondard, Laika joins Netto and Enzan in the initial attempt to stop them. Later, he is pulled into Beyondard alongside Netto, Enzan, Meiru, and Dingo, where he continues to aid in the struggle against the Zoanoroids and the chaos caused by the beasts. In Beast+, he appears in several episodes, including a scenario where he and SearchMan fight phantom versions of other NetNavis.
In terms of abilities, Laika is an expert fencer and a capable pilot of vehicles such as snowmobiles and fighter jets. When using Cross Fusion with SearchMan, he initially wields the Search Rifle but can also switch to a katana if the rifle is lost. His fighting style emphasizes analysis and precision, reflecting SearchMan's own search-oriented capabilities. Laika is also shown to be willing to disobey orders when he believes a better plan exists, as demonstrated when he helps rescue a dog that is considered Sharo's greatest hero for its ability to sniff out rare metals.
