Description
Haruka Hikari is the mother of Lan Hikari and the wife of Yuichiro Hikari in the Rockman.EXE Beast+ anime. Throughout the series, she is portrayed as a sweet and caring woman who dotes on her husband and son. Her personality is warm and nurturing, which is particularly expressed through her love of cooking. She frequently offers food and sweets to Lan's friends when they visit the Hikari home, often ignoring their protests or requests to focus on other matters, a trait that extends even to serious characters who are not fond of sweets.
A recurring theme regarding Haruka is her sense of being left out. Her husband is frequently away for work as a scientist, and as the series progresses, her son Lan becomes increasingly involved in adventures as a NetSaver. This leaves her feeling lonely at home, and she is often left behind as her family goes on adventures, which is a recurring joke within the narrative. In the first episode of Rockman.EXE Beast+, Lan begins to tell her about the world of Beyondard and the character Barrel, but he rushes off before finishing the story, much to her disappointment. As he leaves, she calls after him with a typical maternal warning to watch out for cars. Her role in the story is therefore largely supportive and domestic, representing the stable home life from which Lan departs on his missions.
Her key relationships center entirely on her family. She is a devoted and pampering wife to Yuichiro Hikari and a caring mother to Lan. Her interactions with other characters are mostly limited to acting as a hostess, feeding Lan's acquaintances. In terms of development, her character sees little change, remaining a constant background presence. However, she plays a part in the series finale, where she, along with the rest of the world, is transformed into cached data by the antagonist Cache. After Lan defeats Cache, she is restored to normal. The narrative does not grant her any notable combat abilities or special powers, as she is a non-combatant civilian character whose strengths are her kindness and domestic skills.
