Description
Lady Bat is a vampire-like servant created by the antagonist Michel in the second season of the anime Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure. She first appears in episode 9 and is one of the four main antagonists of that arc. Lady Bat refers to herself as the wings of love and pleasure. Her appearance includes sharp fangs, pointed ears, and large bat-like wings. Despite her feminine presentation and the use of female pronouns in most references, some information notes that her gender presentation is ambiguous, with the Japanese version indicating she is a male who dresses as a woman, though she consistently identifies as female within the story.
Lady Bat is highly devoted to Michel and is intensely determined to become his favorite servant. Her personality is marked by a mix of immaturity, poor sportsmanship, and a strong desire to prove herself, but she can also display a calm and strategic side when executing her plans. Her primary motivation is to serve Michel by eliminating the mermaid princesses and gathering memories for him. She enjoys causing distress through her hypnotic abilities and takes pleasure in her role.
Her main ability is a song called Ankoku no Tsubasa, which can send those who hear it into a deep slumber or trance. As a vampire, she does not drink blood; instead, she extracts memories from her victims by kissing them, leaving them disoriented and vulnerable. She is also powerful enough to force the mermaid princesses out of their idol forms and back into their mermaid forms, weakening them. When she appears, she often emerges from a swirl of bats.
In the story, Lady Bat serves as a recurring antagonist who targets the main mermaid heroines Lucia, Hanon, and Rina, attempting to capture them and steal their memories. She works alongside other servants of Michel, such as the Black Beauty Sisters, Lanhua, and Alala, creating a dynamic of rivalry as each seeks to curry favor with their master. Over the course of the series, her loyalty to Michel remains absolute, but her role ends when Michel deems his servants no longer useful. He absorbs her and the other servants, effectively killing them. Lady Bat does not experience significant personal development or redemption; her arc concludes with her demise at the hands of the very master she sought to please.
