Description
Hanon Hosho is one of the central characters in the anime Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch, serving as the Mermaid Princess of the South Atlantic Ocean and the keeper of the Aqua Pearl. She is the second mermaid to appear and becomes a core member of the main trio alongside Lucia Nanami and Rina Toin.

Hanon came to the human world after her underwater palace was destroyed by Gaito and his demons, forcing the mermaids living in her kingdom to flee. In her original mermaid form, she has long, wavy blue hair with two star-shaped ornaments in her bangs and blue eyes. When taking on her human appearance, her hair becomes shorter and darker in color, while her eyes turn brown. She is notably the shortest of the main mermaid princesses.

Personality-wise, Hanon is defined by her feminine and flirtatious nature, with a strong passion for shopping, makeup, and fashion. She considers herself a love expert and often provides advice to her friends about their romantic relationships. While Lucia tends to act on instinct, Hanon is generally more reflective and composed, possibly due to having already undergone her coming-of-age ceremony. Despite her cheerful and optimistic demeanor, she can be hot-headed and stubborn, especially when overcome by strong emotions related to love. A former servant describes her as a runaway locomotive that rushes forward along its rails.

In the first season, Hanon develops a deep infatuation with her music teacher, Taro Mitsuki, whom she affectionately calls Taro-chan. Although her feelings are not initially reciprocated romantically, she loves him genuinely and selflessly, and her devotion becomes a crucial plot point when she risks her safety to protect him from Sara, Mitsuki's former lover. After realizing that Mitsuki and Sara share a profound history, Hanon makes the difficult decision to set aside her own feelings and helps reunite them. After Sara is sealed away and Mitsuki leaves for Germany to study music, he gifts Hanon a musical composition titled Mizuiro no Senritsu, which brings her great happiness.

In the second season, Hanon encounters Nagisa Shirai, a boy who finds the sheet music Mitsuki left behind and quickly develops a crush on her. Initially dismissing his feelings as immature, Hanon gradually begins to reciprocate his affection as the series progresses, eventually forming a romantic relationship with him.

As a mermaid princess, Hanon possesses distinct abilities tied to her pearl. To transform into her idol singer form, she calls out Mizuiro Pearl Voice. In this state, she wears a light blue dress with matching gloves and boots, and her voice is amplified through a microphone-like device called the E-pitch, which she uses to defeat enemies. Her primary image songs are Ever Blue and Mizuiro no Senritsu. She also has an upgraded idol outfit that appears later in the series, featuring a more elaborate design.
