Description
Michel, also known in some contexts as Mikel, is the primary antagonist of the second story arc in Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure. He is an artificial being created by the Ancients, an ancient race of angels, and physically resembles an angel with long green hair, blue eyes, and wings. His appearance is often described as androgynous. Michel's background reveals that he was originally a gentle and good-hearted ancient angel, but he became disgusted by the damage humans had inflicted on the Earth that he and the other angels had created. This deep-seated disgust fuels his primary motivation: to wage a war against humanity and, by extension, against the Mermaid Princesses, whom he views as traitors for forming bonds with humans. He believes that angels and mermaids are superior beings to humans because they understand the importance of the Earth and possess inherent powers.

In the main anime storyline, Michel is portrayed as a cruel, manipulative, and calculating figure who will attack the weak and blackmail others to further his goals. He launches a personal vendetta against the Mermaid Princesses after learning of their relationships with the human world. Despite his immense power—he is strong enough to resist the mermaid princesses' songs until the final confrontation—he is cursed with a physically weak body that requires him to steal life-sustaining elements. To keep himself alive, he steals the memories of Kaito Domoto, a powerful human prince whose abilities rival those of the mermaid princesses, and the heart of Seira, a mermaid princess and the heir to Sara. His need for Seira's heart and Kaito's memories drives much of the plot in the second arc, as he also requires the body of Michal (another angelic being) to fully manifest his power. In the manga version, it is later revealed that Michel is actually under the control of Fuku, a higher angelic entity, and his true nature is fundamentally good and gentle, suggesting that his antagonistic actions are not entirely his own choice.

Michel's role in the story is that of the main villain of the Pure arc, acting as the shadowy orchestrator behind events that separate the heroes and cause widespread suffering. He is directly opposed by the Mermaid Princesses, especially Lucia Nanami and Hanon Hosho, and his schemes force them to confront not only his power but also the moral complexities of his origins. His key relationships include being a primary enemy to the mermaid princesses, his connection to Kaito (whose memories he steals), and his link to Seira and Michal, who were once part of him. Throughout the arc, his development shifts from being seen as purely evil to a tragic figure whose original gentle heart was subjugated and corrupted by external forces and his own despair over the state of the world. His notable abilities include angelic flight, resistance to magical songs, memory manipulation, and the capacity to absorb and use the life force of others to sustain his frail body.
