Description
Madame Taki is the owner of the Pearl Piari Hotel and a pearl oyster fairy who serves as a fortune teller in the world of Mermaid Melody. She is a supporting character who appears more frequently in the anime adaptation than in the original manga, where she only has a brief cameo in two panels and later a larger role in one chapter. In the anime, she is depicted as a calm and focused elderly woman who attempts to use her fortune telling to help the mermaid princesses and their friends. However, her predictions are almost always inaccurate, which leads the characters to rarely ask for her readings. The character Hippo comments that her fortunes are usually wrong, and she is often treated as a comedic gag character because of this unreliability. Her true form is a clam, and she has the ability to transform into one, presumably for swimming or protection. In the anime, pearl shells appear when she is struck by the villain Gakuto's song, though this does not occur in the manga. Her motivations center on wanting to be helpful and supportive to the main group, even if her methods fall short. She maintains a friendly relationship with Lucia and the other mermaid princesses, acting as a local ally and occasional source of misguided guidance. Her personality is generally good-natured and persistent, despite her lack of accuracy. While she does not undergo significant character development, her role as a recurring comic relief figure and the hotel owner provides a stable presence in the series. Her notable abilities include fortune telling with a crystal ball and the shapeshifting transformation into a clam.
