Description
Alala is a character who appears in the second season of the anime, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure, serving as one of the main antagonists. She is a fairy-like servant of the powerful being Mikeru, alongside her two siblings, Lady Bat and Lanhua. Calling herself the wings of dreams and decadence, Alala is youthful and energetic, distinguishing herself from her more serious counterparts through her peppy and upbeat demeanor.

In terms of background, Alala was born in Mikeru's lair and is one of the Original Demons created by him. She is the youngest of this group, and she takes her role as a servant seriously, though her methods and personality are uniquely her own. Her primary motivation throughout the series is her intense desire to become a teen idol. She practices her singing and dancing daily, believing herself to be incredibly cute and talented, and she sees the mermaid princesses primarily as rivals for attention and adoration. This self-infatuation means she loves being the center of attention and becomes easily annoyed when she feels she is not receiving the recognition she deserves. Despite her sweet and cheerful exterior, she can be quite temperamental.

Alala's personality is a mix of childish enthusiasm and genuine menace. She is convinced of her own superiority and cuteness, a trait she shares with Lady Bat and Lanhua. Her annoying habits and grandiose statements often exasperate her siblings, particularly Lanhua. She enjoys getting what she wants and is not above using her powers to achieve her goals. Her ability to set objects on fire accidentally or on purpose makes even her ally Fuku wary of irritating her, a caution he does not extend to the Black Beauty Sisters. While she is a villain, her motivation is less about pure malice and more about a selfish desire for fame and the spotlight.

Throughout the story, Alala's role is to act as a direct antagonist to the mermaid princesses, particularly in the second season. She uses her powers to attack them and hinder their mission. Her key relationships are with her creator, Mikeru, whom she serves faithfully, and with her sisters, Lady Bat and Lanhua, whom she considers her best friends despite their frequent bickering. The Black Beauty Sisters, Sheshe and Mimi, find Alala and her siblings to be strange due to their behavior. In the final arc of the second season, Alala, along with her fellow servants, is absorbed by Mikeru.

Alala undergoes some development in her role as an antagonist. While she remains dedicated to serving Mikeru, her personal ambition to be an idol is a driving force that creates a unique dynamic. Unlike purely evil villains, her actions are often tempered by her desire for performance and recognition. In the end, after being freed from Mikeru, she is shown singing alongside the mermaid princesses, indicating a form of reconciliation and a shift away from her villainous role.

Regarding her notable abilities, Alala fights using her songs, similar to the mermaid princesses and other demons. She possesses two distinct songs. Her primary attack song is Star Mero Mero Heart, which she uses to directly assault the mermaids. When she sings this, she can send out green stars that cause the mermaids to feel paralyzed and unwell. In the manga adaptation, this power is depicted differently, allowing her to trap people in dreams or nightmares of her choosing. Her second song, Oh Yeah! Arara, is used when she is in her human disguise, performing as an idol. This song has the unique effect of making all males who hear it fall in love with her, though it has no effect on females. Beyond her musical powers, Alala also has the inherent ability to create fire and set objects ablaze, a power she sometimes struggles to control. In her true form, she appears as a fairy with green hair, purple eyes, and wings, carrying a long baton with a star on the end. Her human disguise is similar, with slightly darker hair and brown eyes, often dressed in colorful idol-style outfits.
