Description
Makoto Oogami is a main character in Ghost Hound, a teenage boy with short black hair and gray eyes. He presents as a cold, level‑headed delinquent who rarely attends school and keeps a deliberate distance from others, often appearing anti‑social. This withdrawn demeanor stems from a traumatic childhood experience: he was kidnapped and held hostage for several days, an event that left him with deep psychological scars, including anxiety and symptoms of post‑traumatic stress. Despite his reserved and seemingly indifferent exterior, Makoto is highly intelligent and analytically minded. He has a keen interest in science and technology, particularly the workings of the brain and consciousness, and he applies this knowledge to investigate the strange supernatural events that occur in the town of Suiten. Makoto possesses the ability to project his consciousness into a spirit realm known as the Unseen World, a phenomenon similar to astral projection, which allows him and his friends to explore paranormal occurrences and confront the traumas of their pasts. Alongside Taro Komori and Masayuki Nakajima, who also carry their own childhood traumas, Makoto forms a central trio that drives the story forward. His role in the narrative is that of a key investigator, using both his analytical skills and his astral projection ability to uncover the mysteries surrounding the town and their shared history. Makoto’s relationship with his grandmother, Himeko Oogami, is another important element; she is the head of a local religious tradition and wishes for him to eventually succeed her, but Makoto shows no interest in that path. Throughout the series, Makoto undergoes significant development, gradually becoming more confident and assertive as he gains greater control over his abilities and a deeper understanding of himself and the spirit world. His notable abilities include his sharp intellect and his capacity for astral projection, which he learns to wield with increasing precision to navigate both the physical and spiritual dimensions of the story.
