TV-Series
Description
Ink Nijihara is the central character of her story, a seventeen-year-old high school student who is often mistaken for a much younger child due to her petite stature and youthful appearance. Despite this, she is exceptionally bright, particularly in the subject of English, where her grades are very high. She lives next door to her classmate Nao Tezuka, for whom she harbors a deep and consuming infatuation.
Ink's personality is marked by a significant contrast between her academic diligence and her personal clumsiness. She is known for being physically awkward, often tripping over nothing, a trait she is said to have inherited from her mother. Her romantic feelings for Nao are a driving force in her life, and she frequently becomes lost in elaborate fantasies about being alone with him, sometimes to the point of becoming entranced and even drooling.
Her primary motivation is to get closer to Nao, who barely seems to notice her. This desire takes a fantastical turn when she meets a small, duck-like creature named Ah-kun, who comes from a magical kingdom. Ah-kun bestows upon Ink the power to transform into a magical girl known as Pastel Ink. Using a pink flip phone as a transformation device, she changes into a distinct duck‑themed outfit that gives her blue hair, a large sailor collar, and a white swimsuit-like base, with ribbons appearing as part of the transformation sequence. In her role as a magical hero, she uses her abilities to help people in her city.
Her magical duties also provide the perfect cover for her true goal. As Pastel Ink, she takes on the role of a tutor, specifically to help Nao improve his English skills, allowing her to spend time with him while keeping her true identity a secret. Her notable abilities as Pastel Ink include wielding two hammer‑like batons in combat and the power to change her magical costume at will into various forms, such as a maid or a valkyrie.
Ink's key relationships are few but central. Her feelings for Nao are the emotional core of her actions, though they are largely unrequited and unknown to him. Her partnership with the magical duck Ah-kun is what enables her dual life, guiding her on her missions and serving as the source of her power. In the progression of her story, Ink eventually loses her magical abilities. However, this does not stop her from continuing to tutor Nao. She creates her own non-magical version of the Pastel Ink costume and persists in her efforts, ultimately getting into the same college as him. Throughout this time, she never reveals to Nao that she was once the magical girl Pastel Ink.
