Description
Lancia is a character from the anime and manga series Reborn! who initially appears as a formidable but tragic figure. Born on December 15, Lancia was adopted as a child by the leader of an unnamed Mafia family in Northern Italy. This same family later took in a younger Mukuro Rokudo, who would become the source of Lancia's downfall. Mukuro periodically used his mind‑control abilities to take over Lancia's body, eventually forcing him to slaughter his own adoptive family. Under Mukuro's complete control, Lancia lost his will to fight and even forgot his own name. He was subsequently captured and imprisoned.
His role in the story begins when he is mistaken for Mukuro himself. After Tsuna Sawada defeats both Lancia and the controlling presence of Mukuro, Lancia is freed from the possession. He is then taken into custody by the Vendicare, the organization that enforces Mafia law. Later, during the Vongola Tournament arc, Lancia returns to Japan and defeats most of the lower‑ranking members of the Varia. In this reappearance, he is revealed to be known as the strongest man in Northern Italy. His repeated possession by Mukuro left him unusually sensitive to Mukuro's thoughts, allowing him to sense the latter's presence. Before leaving for Italy, Lancia gives Tsuna his own family ring, which later plays a protective role in Tsuna's final battle against Byakuran.
Lancia's primary weapon is a gigantic steel ball attached to a chain. He launches it using powerful palm thrusts. The ball's surface is engraved with snake‑like patterns, which allow it to track and redirect air currents. This creates a vortex that can suck in nearby objects, and Lancia can alter the ball's rotation in mid‑air, making his attacks highly unpredictable. Despite his tragic past and loss of identity, Lancia retains a deep pride in his strength and his Mafia heritage. His motivations stem from a desire to reclaim his autonomy after being used as a puppet, and he later aids Tsuna as a gesture of gratitude and redemption.
Lancia's key relationships are defined by his connection to Mukuro Rokudo, who exploited and dominated him, and to Tsuna, who inadvertently liberated him. His bond with his adoptive family was destroyed by Mukuro's actions, leaving him isolated until his eventual return to Italy. Development‑wise, Lancia progresses from a broken, will‑less pawn to a restored fighter who can stand on his own, though his story arc remains relatively short. His notable abilities include his immense physical strength, combat prowess, and the unique technique with his spiked ball that combines brute force with aerodynamic manipulation.
