TV-Series
Description
Mukuro Rokudo, also known by the nickname Roku, is a central figure in the series. He is introduced as a fifteen-year-old mafia criminal who leads the Kokuyo Gang, a group of dangerous escaped prisoners. Prior to his first appearance, he was imprisoned in a high-security Italian prison reserved for criminals who have committed offenses against the mafia itself. His early life was marked by trauma: he was subjected to experiments as a child by the Estraneo mafia family. This abuse instilled in him a deep hatred for the entire mafia underground. After killing his captors, he offered Ken Joshima and Chikusa Kakimoto, fellow victims, a chance to join his quest to destroy the world. His motivations go beyond mere revenge; he seeks to cleanse the world of its corruption by invoking universal suffering through a world war.

Personality-wise, Mukuro often displays a playful smile but is apathetic to the suffering of others. He is direct and arrogant, not easily intimidated. He views people as toys or tools that can be sacrificed to achieve his goals. However, despite his claims of indifference, he demonstrates a hidden protectiveness toward his companions, particularly Ken and Chikusa, and later Chrome Dokuro. He tolerates them and even sacrifices himself for them when necessary, though he refuses to show this openly.

His role in the story evolves from the series' first primary antagonist to a reluctant ally. After being defeated by Tsunayoshi Sawada, he and his gang are imprisoned by the Vendicare. During his imprisonment, he encounters Chrome Dokuro, a dying girl, and possesses her body, saving her life by providing illusionary organs. He then strikes a bargain with the Vongola family: he will become their Mist Guardian in exchange for Ken and Chikusa's safety. Even after this arrangement, he maintains that he is not part of the mafia and holds the organization in contempt. He continues to operate from behind the scenes, using Chrome as his proxy.

Key relationships include his subordinates Ken Joshima and Chikusa Kakimoto, whom he protects fiercely. He shares a profound connection with Chrome Dokuro, through whom he manifests his abilities while imprisoned. His apprentice Fran later frees his physical body from prison. He has a complex rivalry with Kyoya Hibari, who holds a grudge after their initial fight, yet they cooperate during later battles. His relationship with Tsunayoshi Sawada remains adversarial, but he eventually aids the Vongola when their interests align.

Mukuro undergoes development from a cold antagonist to a more ambiguous figure who, while still detesting the mafia, acts to protect those under his care. He forms temporary alliances and participates in major conflicts, such as the future battle against the Millefiore family and the Arcobaleno Representative Battle.

In terms of abilities, Mukuro is a master illusionist. His signature power is the Six Paths of Reincarnation, a set of skills he acquired through repeated death and rebirth during the Estraneo experiments. Each path grants a different ability, indicated by a Japanese numeral appearing in his right eye. The First Path, Hell Path, creates powerful illusions that can manifest physically. The Second Path, Hungry Ghost Path, allows him to use the abilities of a possessed individual. The Third Path, Animal Path, enables him to summon and control poisonous creatures. The Fourth Path, Asura Path, enhances his combat abilities with a purple aura. The Fifth Path, Human Path, further increases his speed and power, though it is dangerous and he avoids using it. The Sixth Path, Heavenly Path, gives him the ability to possess and control others. Mukuro also uses a trident as his primary weapon, often in conjunction with the Estraneo family's Possession Bullet, which allows him to possess anyone he cuts with the trident. He can possess multiple bodies simultaneously. Later, he gains access to advanced equipment such as the Reality Illusion Gloves created by Verde, which turn illusions into solid matter, and the Vongola Gear Mist Earring Ver.X after his ring is upgraded. He also has a box animal, the Vongola Mist Owl.
