Description
Eve Genoard is the youngest child and only daughter of the wealthy industrialist Raymond Genoard. Growing up in the grand family home in western New Jersey, she was sheltered from the truth about the family’s drug manufacturing business, a deliberate choice by her grandfather and father. As a young woman, she has brown hair and brown eyes, carries herself with the grace expected of her upbringing, and typically wears expensive dresses, though her appearance is noted to be slightly different between the anime and light novel illustrations.

In her early years, Eve is characterized by her religious devotion and a profound, almost naive sincerity in everything she says and does. She is initially a passive individual who feels powerless and often cries over the troublesome behavior of her older brother, Dallas, relying on others, and even divine intervention, to solve her problems. She came to hate money because of the greed and deceit she witnessed at the social functions she attended as a child.

A dramatic turning point occurs in December 1931, with the apparent deaths of her father and eldest brother, Jeffrey, followed by the disappearance of Dallas. Learning that Dallas had been captured and sunk into the Hudson River by the Gandor family mafia organization forces Eve to abandon her passive nature. This tragedy awakens a new-found determination and resolve within her, transforming her into a more proactive and independent person driven by a powerful sense of duty and a desire to find her brother. She becomes the third-generation head of the Genoard family, though in practice, key factory staff manage the remaining businesses and pay her royalties in name only.

Eve’s primary role in the narrative is as a determined seeker of truth in the chaotic underworld of 1930s New York. Her personal quest to locate Dallas puts her in direct contact with various criminal organizations and information brokers. Despite her sheltered upbringing, she treats people from all social classes and races with equal respect, does not distance herself from her servants, and views them as family. She is aware that she is far too trusting for her own good and understands that this trusting nature may one day cause her harm, but she accepts this as a part of who she is.

Key relationships define her journey. Her primary motivation is her bond with her brother Dallas, who, despite being a volatile delinquent, has Eve as one of his few genuine weaknesses. After her family’s collapse, her loyal elderly servants, the steward Benjamin and the maid Samantha, remain with her, providing crucial support. She enlists the help of the Daily Days information brokerage in her search for Dallas and later engages directly with the Gandor family, the very people responsible for her brother’s fate, to fund construction projects along the Hudson River in an effort to recover him.

Her character development is significant, as she evolves from a naive, crying child who prayed for miracles into a young woman of strong resolve who actively takes charge of her family’s affairs and her own destiny. While she does not possess any supernatural or combat abilities like many other characters in the series, her notable strengths are her immense personal wealth, her sincere and earnest personality that disarms even hardened criminals, and her unwavering determination. Her journey culminates in a reunion with Dallas in 1933, and she continues to be involved in the family's affairs as she searches for him in subsequent years.
