Description
Poppu Harukaze is the younger sister of the protagonist Doremi Harukaze in the anime Ojamajo Doremi # and its later installments. She is about four years younger than Doremi and is introduced as a student at Sonatine Kindergarten, later moving on to attend Misora First Elementary School. Poppu has short light pink hair with a distinctive flared style and darker pink eyes. Her personal color is red, her birthday is September 9, and her main musical interest is the piano, which she begins learning during her final year of kindergarten.
In personality, Poppu is considerably more composed and responsible than her older sister. She can be trusted to look after the Maho-do shop by herself, knows how to use household appliances such as a vacuum cleaner, and is well regarded by adults and classmates for her dependable nature. In contrast to Doremi's clumsiness, Poppu is efficient, confident, and quick to point out her sister's faults. During the early part of the series she often teases Doremi and seems convinced that Doremi is destined to fail because of her carelessness. Despite this teasing, she genuinely cares for Doremi and has followed after her since she was very young. Her stated reason for wanting to become a witch apprentice is that her big sister was doing it and it looked fun. Although she likes to claim that she is mature, she is still a young child at heart, and her immaturity shows in ways such as regularly falling asleep before her nighttime witch examinations and having very restless sleep.
Poppu becomes involved with magic at the age of four, when she witnesses Doremi, Hazuki Fujiwara, and Aiko Senoo performing a magical stage. After this discovery she joins the Maho-do as the fourth apprentice witch, using a red apprentice outfit, her own fairy partner Fafa, and a horn-like magical item called a Polon. Her magic incantation is Pipitto Puritto Puritan Peperuto, and her magical stage incantation is Pipitto Puritto Hogaraka ni. She shows considerable natural talent and advances through the witch examinations more quickly than Doremi, at one point skipping three grades in a single promotion. However, because witch examinations are held at night and she struggles to stay awake, she misses many chances to take them early on and does not sit any exam during the first series. She also has the habit of calling the witch Majo Rika Bunyu-chan, a name she chose after mistaking her for a stuffed toy.
Within the group, Poppu serves as the youngest member and is treated by the other girls as a shared little sister. Her relationship with Doremi is the most important one in her life. She is argumentative and sharp-tongued with her sister, but she loves Doremi and wants to stay by her side.
