TV-Series
Description
Ginjirou is a central figure in the community of Furai Row-House block in Edo, where he works as a locksmith with the remarkable ability to break any lock using only his fingers. Despite the series often highlighting other characters, Ginjirou is a key protagonist whose personal journey and decisions drive much of the narrative. He leads a double life, balancing his identity as a friendly town locksmith with his duties as a member of the Men in Black, a specialized group of operatives who combat extraterrestrial threats. He holds the position of leader within this organization, commanding a group of six operatives who serve under him.
On the surface, Ginjirou often projects an attitude of seeking only what is fun and enjoyable. However, this demeanor is a mask for a deeper-seated bitterness, shaped by the events of his past. He is a kindly soul who is fundamentally averse to causing harm to others, a trait that repeatedly places him in difficult situations where his compassionate nature conflicts with his obligations to his country and his role as a government agent. He is pragmatic and protective, sometimes acting as a killjoy when he perceives danger or foolishness in the plans of those around him.
His past as a former government agent is a crucial part of his background, and he is eventually reactivated to help track down Sora and Seikichi. As the story progresses, he becomes a confidant to Sora, discovering the truth that she is the white sky beast, a secret he works diligently to protect. This knowledge puts him in direct opposition to his own allies at times, as he must find excuses and devise schemes to shield Sora and Seikichi from the authorities. His actions are driven by a desire to prevent tragedy and find a peaceful resolution, even as he is forced to confront figures like Akai and the blue sky beast. His significant role in the plot requires him to make some of the most complex and difficult decisions of any character.
Ginjirou maintains crucial relationships with the other residents of the row house, particularly Seikichi and Sora, as he is involved in most of the sub-plots that develop around them. He often finds himself acting as an advisor or intermediary, such as when he encourages Seikichi to travel alone with Sora to resolve their differences. His abilities extend beyond his physical skill as a locksmith and his combat training as a Man in Black. He is also perceptive and strategic, often being one of the few characters aware of the true nature of the sky beasts and the supernatural events unfolding around him. Throughout the series, Ginjirou evolves from a man trying to distance himself from a troubled past to an active protector of his found family, grappling with the weight of his responsibilities while remaining true to his inherently merciful nature.
