Description
Na-na is a child princess from another world and the original owner of a magical crown that grants royal status to whoever wears it. She is small in stature and speaks a unique language known as Nana-go, which consists of rearranged romanized Japanese syllables and is mostly incomprehensible to other characters. Despite this communication barrier, she is determined and persistent in her goal to reclaim her crown from Himeko Tsubaki, the ordinary schoolgirl who accidentally obtained it. Na-na follows Himeko everywhere, never giving up her pursuit, which drives much of the series’ comedic conflict. Her motivation is straightforward: she wants her property back and believes the crown rightfully belongs to her. Over the course of the story, she gradually learns to make herself understood in small ways, particularly to the thieves Leslie and Karen and to Himeko herself, hinting at a developing bond. Her role is that of a catalyst for the chaos surrounding the crown, and her presence forces Himeko and others to navigate absurd situations. Na-na’s background is tied to the Kingdom of Cats, as suggested by episodes that explore her origin and her connection to a feline-themed world. She exhibits a mischievous yet innocent personality, often appearing oblivious to the trouble she causes, and her childish determination contrasts with the more self-serving motivations of the other crown seekers. While she has no overt combat abilities, her sheer tenacity and the mystique of her unknown powers make her a recurring obstacle and an unpredictable ally. Her relationships are defined by her single-minded pursuit of the crown, but she also forms a strange, unspoken camaraderie with Himeko and the thieves as the series progresses. Na-na undergoes minimal overt character development; instead, her growth is shown through the gradual erosion of communication barriers and her increasing willingness to interact beyond her initial goal. Her notable abilities include her distinctive language, which serves both as a comedic device and a plot element, and her apparent knowledge of the crown’s true nature and origin.
