Description
Paeto Ou is a male member of the Silver Tribe in the anime Heroic Age, depicted as a young man with gray shoulder-length hair and green eyes. He is introduced as a disciplined and capable operative tasked with destroying the Argonaut, the starship carrying the representatives of the Iron Tribe, and he initially embodies the cold, detached demeanor typical of his species. In the early stages of the story he is largely taciturn and seemingly devoid of strong emotion, carrying out his mission with clinical efficiency.

His role in the story is that of a recurring antagonist and pursuer. He leads forces of the Bronze Tribe in repeated attacks against the Argonaut after the Iron Tribe's princess Dhianeila forms a contract with the heroic tribe's warrior Age, and he becomes one of the most persistent threats the crew faces. His motivation begins as simple duty: the Silver Tribe regards the Iron Tribe as a primitive race whose continued existence is undesirable, and Paeto Ou accepts this reasoning without question.

A turning point occurs when he is struck by a desperate mental attack from Dhianeila. As a Silver Tribe individual he is not supposed to harbor certain emotions, but this encounter plants feelings of fear within him that he cannot fully shake, even after his fellow Silver Tribe member Prome Ou attempts to absorb those emotions. From that point onward his emotional state becomes increasingly visible. He develops something close to terror regarding Dhianeila and a growing hostility toward the Iron Tribe, and his pursuit of the Argonaut escalates into something approaching obsession. He becomes agitated more easily, disobeys the consensus of his kin, and openly lashes out in anger at Prome Ou when she tries to stop his unilateral attempt to destroy the Argonaut. This pride and refusal to accept being thwarted define much of his later conduct.

His relationships are most significant with his fellow Silver Tribe members and with the Argonaut's crew. His dynamic with Prome Ou shifts from cooperation to friction as his emotions and stubbornness grow. With the warrior Mobeeto, he shares a rapport marked by mutual insults that nonetheless reveals underlying trust and respect. His feelings toward Dhianeila are complex, rooted in fear born from her mental assault, while his attitude toward the Iron Tribe hardens into something resembling hatred, especially after witnessing the destruction of worlds.

Despite his antagonism, he is not beyond reconsideration. When he learns the true motivations of Rom Ror, another Silver Tribe figure whose schemes for destroying the Iron Tribe go far beyond what Paeto Ou regards as acceptable, he is genuinely taken aback and ultimately sides with the nodos, the heroes of the story, in opposing Rom Ror's mad ambitions. After the final battle he uses his abilities to help repair the Argonaut and expresses amazement that such a primitive vessel managed to elude him for so long, signaling a measure of reconciliation and a shift away from his earlier conviction.

In terms of abilities, Paeto Ou is highly formidable. Like Dhianeila, he can create spiritual projections of himself, though his are far more powerful and can manifest shields and short-range tentacle-spade attacks. He is capable of teleportation and can survive unaided in the vacuum of space for extended periods after his starship is destroyed. He can also materialize an entirely new starship out of nothingness within minutes, demonstrating the advanced constructive powers of the Silver Tribe. His personal arc is defined by the gradual emergence of emotion in a being not meant to feel it, moving from cold executor of duty to a proud, obsessive, and ultimately redeemable figure.
