Description
Otae, whose full name is Shimura Tae, is a supporting character in Gintama and the older sister of Shimura Shinpachi. The name Otae comes from adding the honorific O to her given name, which is a common way of referring to women, and Kagura often addresses her as big sister. She is a young woman known in the Kabuki District for her beauty and her strength, with long brown hair that she usually keeps tied back in a ponytail and a habit of wearing a flower-patterned kimono.
Otae grew up with her younger brother Shinpachi and their father Shimura Ken in the family dojo, Koudoukan, and she began training with weapons at a very young age. Her mother died shortly after Shinpachi was born, and her father died only a few years later, leaving Otae to raise her brother while keeping the dojo running and carrying the family's debts.
