Description
Drac d'una estrella, known in the original Japanese version as Ih Shinron or Yi Xing Long, and in many English adaptations as Syn Shenron, is the seventh and final Shadow Dragon to appear in the anime Dragon Ball GT, serving as the last antagonist of the series. His name literally translates to One-Star Dragon in Mandarin Chinese, which refers to the corrupted Dragon Ball embedded in his forehead.
Background-wise, Ih Shinron was not born from any ordinary wish. Like all Shadow Dragons, he materialized from the buildup of negative energy within the Dragon Balls caused by decades of overuse. Specifically, he was brought into existence by the selfless wish that revived all the victims of Frieza and his soldiers on Planet Namek. Although this wish was made for noble reasons, the immense scale of lives restored generated a massive amount of negative energy, which is the primary reason Ih Shinron is the most powerful of all the Shadow Dragons.
In terms of personality, Ih Shinron stands out as the most selfish, uncaring, and purely evil-hearted of the dragons. Unlike his brother Nuova Shenron, who values honor and fair combat, Ih Shinron has no such code. He will not wait for an opponent to recover from injuries and despises any act of mercy or compassion. He is extremely arrogant and cruel when dominating a fight, often mocking his enemies and allowing them to suffer slowly before delivering a fatal blow. However, when faced with a superior opponent, he can become fearful and desperate, though he typically tries to hide this anxiety. A key aspect of his psychology is his absolute refusal to take responsibility for his own existence; instead, he constantly reminds the heroes, particularly Goku, that they are solely to blame for creating him and the other Shadow Dragons through their repeated use of the Dragon Balls.
Motivation-wise, Ih Shinron's primary goal is destruction. Once he achieves his ultimate form, he becomes intent on annihilating everything and everyone that stands in his way, acting as a dragon of absolute destruction. His motivations are not complex; he views the universe as something to be conquered and destroyed, driven by the intense negative energy that created him and a profound contempt for those who misuse the Dragon Balls. He holds no loyalty even to his fellow Shadow Dragons, as demonstrated when he swiftly and brutally kills Nuova Shenron for showing kindness to Goku.
His role in the story is that of the ultimate final threat. Ih Shinron appears immediately after the defeat of Eis Shenron. Taking advantage of a blinded and exhausted Super Saiyan 4 Goku, he easily overpowers the Saiyan hero before being confronted by a team of warriors including Uub, Trunks, Gohan, and Goten. After being momentarily overwhelmed by a restored and powered-up Goku, Ih Shinron resorts to his secret technique: he consumes the remaining Dragon Balls, absorbing them into his body. This triggers a hideous transformation into his enhanced state, known as Super Ih Shinron or Omega Shenron. In this form, he becomes nearly invincible, easily defeating Goku, Vegeta, and the other Z-Fighters, and forcing the use of the fusion technique to create Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, the only character capable of surpassing him.
Regarding key relationships, the most notable is his connection to Nuova Shenron, the Four-Star Dragon. While Nuova possesses a sense of honor and even develops a mutual respect with Goku, Ih Shinron views this as treachery and destroys him without hesitation. He also has a direct, antagonistic relationship with Super Saiyan 4 Goku and later Vegeta, viewing them as the primary obstacles to his destruction. There is also a significant, albeit indirect, connection to Grandpa Gohan, as the Four-Star Dragon Ball was his keepsake, though Ih Shinron himself has no sentimental regard for this history.
In terms of development, Ih Shinron remains largely static, defined by his cruelty and power. However, his most significant change comes through his absorption of the Dragon Balls into Omega Shenron. This transformation is not just a physical evolution; it grants him access to the unique abilities of all the other Shadow Dragons, including the intense heat of Nuova Shenron, the ice attacks of Eis Shenron, the electrical powers of Rage Shenron, and the wind techniques of Oceanus Shenron. His character arc concludes with a rare moment of vulnerability: when finally defeated by Goku's Universal Spirit Bomb after all his power fails him, his proud and arrogant facade crumbles, leaving him to plead futilely for his life.
Notable abilities are extensive. In his base form as Ih Shinron, he possesses tremendous strength, speed, and durability, capable of easily handling Super Saiyan 4 Goku and surviving a direct Kamehameha. His signature technique is the Negative Karma Ball, an energy sphere of pure destructive force capable of annihilating an entire planet. After transforming into Omega Shenron by swallowing the Dragon Balls, his power multiplies exponentially. In this state, his chest displays all seven Dragon Balls, and he can utilize techniques from the other dragons, such as the blazing heat of Nuova Shenron, the freezing rays of Eis Shenron, the electrical attacks of Rage Shenron, and the ability to regenerate or even possess other beings. He also commands a devastating attack known as the Gigantic Blaze, where he sets a point of energy inside an opponent and then releases it in a massive explosion. Despite his overwhelming power, he is ultimately vulnerable to attacks that overwhelm his negative energy with pure life force, such as the Universal Spirit Bomb or the positive energy of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.
