Description
Oob, also known as Uub, is a character from the Dragon Ball anime series who plays a significant supporting role in Dragon Ball GT. He is the human reincarnation of Kid Buu, the destructive Majin who was defeated by Goku. After that battle, Goku wished for Buu to be reborn as a good person so that he might one day face him again as a worthy opponent, and Oob is the result of that wish. His name is an anagram of Buu, reflecting the connection between his two lives.
In appearance, Oob is a dark-skinned youth with dark eyes and black hair cut into a mohawk on an otherwise shaved head. As a child he is short and scrawny, wearing the traditional robes of his village, consisting of a brown one-shoulder top and white pants. By the time of Dragon Ball GT, he has completed years of training under Goku and has grown taller and more muscular. He now wears a light blue gi resembling Goku's, with yellow wristbands and a matching sash, marking him clearly as Goku's student.
Oob is the eldest of five children and grew up as a young warrior and farmer boy in his home village. At the start of Dragon Ball GT, his training with Goku has already ended, and he is presented as a determined, disciplined young man. Where he was once timid and shy, his time with Goku has transformed him into a confident fighter. He carries within him the immense latent power of the original Majin Buu, but that power is now channeled toward good. He shows deep respect for Goku, treating him not only as a master but almost as a father figure.
His primary motivation throughout the story is to protect the Earth and its people. Although he does not take part directly in the early hunt for the Black Star Dragon Balls, he becomes essential when major threats arise. During the battle against Baby, Oob confronts the villain and fights bravely, but his strength is not yet enough to defeat him. The turning point for his role comes when the good Majin Buu chooses to fuse with him, restoring Oob's ancient powers and creating the enhanced warrior known as Majuub. In this fused state, he gains abilities typical of Buu, including elastic energy attacks and partial regeneration, along with immense physical strength and more refined control of his ki. As Majuub, his power nearly matches Baby's, and he becomes one of the few human fighters able to stand alongside the strongest Saiyans. He later takes part in battles against Super 17 and, during the Shadow Dragons saga, returns to help Goku and the others in the final confrontations. Even when his power is outmatched, his courage and strong sense of justice remain evident.
Oob's most important relationship is with Goku, who sees him as the natural successor to protect the Earth when he is no longer present. Their bond is one of pure teacher and student, and Oob represents the idea that good can arise even from the darkest origins. Unlike the Saiyan warriors, Oob never relies on transformations such as Super Saiyan; his strength comes from spiritual control and later from his fusion with Buu. As a human, he has lost the regeneration, body manipulation, and wild ruthless nature of Kid Buu, but he retains the enormous power of his past life. At the end of Dragon Ball GT, Oob appears once more as Goku departs with Shenlong, a sign that the future of the Earth lies in capable hands and that Goku's legacy will be carried on by his student.
