Description
Uub, also romanized as Oub or Oob, is a young warrior and supporting protagonist in Dragon Ball GT. He is the human reincarnation of the destructive Majin Buu, brought into existence through Goku's wish that Buu be reborn as a good person so that Goku could one day face him again in battle. His name is an anagram of Buu, which reflects the direct connection between his two lives.
Uub grew up in a rural village where he lived as a humble farmer boy. After meeting Goku and becoming his disciple, he trained under him for five years, and by the time of Dragon Ball GT his training has been completed. In that time he changes from a timid, scrawny child into a taller, more muscular and confident warrior who wears a gi similar to Goku's. He is disciplined, determined, and deeply respectful, showing great humility despite his immense strength. He regards Goku not only as his master but also as a father figure, and Goku in turn views Uub as the natural successor who will one day protect the Earth in his place.
Uub carries within himself enormous latent power inherited from his previous life as Buu, but that power is now directed toward good. His main motivation is to live up to the faith Goku placed in him by becoming a warrior capable of defending the planet. During the Baby Saga, he confronts the parasitic villain Baby to protect Earth and fights bravely, but his strength alone is not enough to win. The original kindhearted Majin Buu then chooses to fuse with Uub, producing a being called Majuub, a more powerful and muscular version of Uub that restores many of Buu's ancient abilities. In this merged state he can fight on nearly equal terms with Baby, and he later takes part in the battles against Super 17 and the Shadow Dragons.
As a human, Uub no longer possesses the full range of Buu's monstrous abilities such as complete regeneration and body manipulation. After the fusion, however, he gains abilities reminiscent of Buu, including elastic energy attacks, partial regeneration, immense physical strength, and refined ki control. He never relies on transformations such as Super Saiyan; his power comes from spiritual discipline and the strength gained through his bond with Majin Buu. Because of this, he stands as one of the strongest human fighters of his generation, able to hold his own alongside the Saiyan warriors.
Uub's development across the series traces his journey from a promising trainee into a proven hero. His relationship with Goku is central to his identity, as he is seen as the heir to Goku's teachings and the guardian of Earth's future. In the final events of Dragon Ball GT, he appears once more alongside the other heroes, symbolizing that the protection of the planet rests in the hands of a new generation. His story ultimately represents the idea that goodness can emerge even from the most destructive origins.
