Description
Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule and in the Philippines as Master Pogi, is a human character who appears as a supporting figure in Dragon Ball GT. He is the father of Videl, the father-in-law of Son Gohan, and the maternal grandfather of Pan. By the time of Dragon Ball GT, Mr. Satan is an elderly global celebrity who has maintained his reputation as Earth's greatest hero, a status he originally gained by falsely taking credit for defeating major threats such as Cell and Majin Buu. His background as a former world martial arts champion remains the foundation of his public identity, and he continues to enjoy immense wealth and adoration from the general population.

In Dragon Ball GT, Mr. Satan's personality remains a blend of extravagant showmanship, overconfidence, and theatrical self-importance, but beneath this exterior he is portrayed as deeply caring and emotionally invested in his family. His primary motivation is the well-being and happiness of his granddaughter Pan, of whom he is extremely proud. He tries to present himself as a model of strength for her, even though he is aware that she is far more powerful than he could ever be. His protective instincts also extend to his daughter Videl, and he demonstrates a sincere, heartfelt love for his family that grounds his character.

Mr. Satan's role in the story is that of a comedic and emotional human element. He represents the perspective of an ordinary person living in a world of superpowered beings, providing both humor and pathos. During the Baby Saga, he is among the many inhabitants of Earth who fall under the control of the parasitic Tsufrujin villain Baby, and his possession is used to symbolize the extent of Baby's reach. After being freed, he returns to his public role, largely unaware of the true scale of the threat. In the Shadow Dragons Saga, he appears alongside Pan in small but meaningful moments, acting as a source of emotional support and representing the hope and fear of common humanity during catastrophic events. At the conclusion of Dragon Ball GT, he is present during the emotional aftermath of Goku's departure, trying to maintain a composed front while comforting Pan, reinforcing his importance as a stabilizing family figure.

His key relationships in Dragon Ball GT are with his granddaughter Pan and his daughter Videl. His bond with Pan is one of the most affectionate and emotionally significant in the series; he is openly proud of her and supports her in everything she does, even if he cannot fully comprehend her Saiyan hybrid abilities. She in turn respects him for his human values and his unwavering love. Mr. Satan also maintains a close friendship with the benevolent Majin Buu, who continues to live with him and serves as a protector. During the Baby invasion, both Majin Buu and later Uub shield Mr. Satan from the villain's influence.

In terms of character development, Mr. Satan's arc in Dragon Ball GT does not dramatically alter his core personality, but it deepens his emotional dimension. While he remains the same boastful public figure, the series emphasizes his courage as an ordinary human being who is sincerely willing to protect his loved ones despite being completely outmatched by the threats they face. His inability to fight on a superhuman level is compensated by his emotional bravery and his genuine desire to care for his family, which makes him a beloved figure beyond his comedic antics.

Mr. Satan's notable abilities are purely physical and do not include any ki manipulation, flight, or energy attacks. He is a highly skilled martial artist by human standards, having won multiple World Martial Arts Tournaments. His signature techniques include the Dynamite Kick, the Megaton Punch, and the Dynamic Mess Em Up Punch. However, compared to the Saiyans and other Z-Fighters, his power is negligible, and he cannot meaningfully contribute to combat against the level of threats that appear in Dragon Ball GT. His true strength lies in his charisma, his ability to inspire and rally people, and his emotional resilience, which makes him a uniquely human presence in the series.
