Description
Cain Knightlord is a central figure and the primary antagonist of the narrative, known as the eldest of the three Nightroad siblings and the twin brother of the protagonist, Abel Nightroad. He operates under multiple identities, most notably as the supreme leader of the Rosenkreuz Orden, a powerful and shadowy terrorist organization. Within this group, he is referred to with reverent titles such as "Master" or "His Excellency," while his true nature is classified under the designation "Crusnik 01," marking him as the first of the powerful vampire-hunting androids known as Crusniks.
Originally, Cain was created as part of the Red Mars Project, a United Nations initiative to colonize Mars. He was genetically engineered to be a leader and held the rank of Major in the United Nations Aerospace Force, serving as the charismatic and respected commander of the first Martian殖民团. In this early life, he possessed a gentle, intelligent, and compassionate personality that made him a beloved leader among the colonists. However, beneath this warm exterior lay a deep-seated hatred for humanity. He despised humans for treating him and his siblings as mere tools, created for a specific purpose, which fueled a profound resentment that would later blossom into an all-consuming desire to destroy all of creation.
This destructive impulse became fully realized after a fatal accident on Mars. To save his life, his sister Seth implanted him with a mysterious Crusnik nanomachine discovered on an alien spacecraft. Unlike his siblings, Cain achieved 100% mental and spiritual fusion with the nanomachines. This complete integration not only granted him immense power but also merged his pre-existing hatred for humanity with the machine's inherent drive to destroy, creating a singular, terrifying goal of universal annihilation. He became convinced that existence itself is unstable and disgusting, viewing living beings as something that must be wiped out to achieve a perfect, stable state of nothingness. This philosophy drives his actions throughout the story.
His role is that of the hidden puppet master, orchestrating global chaos from the shadows through the Rosenkreuz Orden. He rarely acts directly, not out of a desire for secrecy, but due to a critical physical limitation. The fusion that gave him his power also left his body profoundly unstable. After being defeated and thrown from the Ark into Earth's atmosphere by Abel, he was reduced to ash and took over nine hundred years to regenerate. Consequently, he can only operate outside a specialized regeneration tank for a few hours at a time, and using his powers drastically shortens this window. This frailty is the primary reason he created the Orden to carry out his plans, as his body cannot yet sustain his apocalyptic ambitions on its own.
Regarding his key relationships, Cain's connection to his twin brother Abel is the most significant. Before his transformation, he genuinely loved Abel and his other sister Seth. However, in his state as Crusnik 01, this familial affection has been completely extinguished. He now views his siblings not as family, but as vessels containing the Crusnik nanomachines he seeks to absorb, particularly Abel's Crusnik 02 and Seth's Crusnik 03. He previously killed and absorbed the Crusnik 04 from a fellow leader named Lilith, and he desires to do the same to his siblings to regain his full, stable power. His followers in the Orden, such as Isaak von Kämpfer, are likewise seen as disposable tools; he harbors no loyalty or affection for them and is intolerant of failure.
Throughout the story, Cain's primary motivation remains the complete restoration of his body. To this end, he seeks out the genetic blueprints of himself and Abel, hidden in a former research facility beneath London. Once his physical form is perfected, he intends to absorb all other Crusniks and use the colossal Ark spacecraft to crash into the Earth, bringing about the end of all life. He demonstrates a chilling disregard for anyone in his pursuit of this goal. His most notable abilities stem from his perfect Crusnik fusion. In his normal state, he can project powerful, invisible destructive forces. When he manifests his full Crusnik form, he grows six white wings and wields a black lance capable of generating devastating red energy. His primary power involves a form of corruption that corrodes matter, and he can even manipulate spatial connections. He also possesses superhuman strength, speed, and regenerative capabilities, making him an almost unstoppable force, limited only by his unstable body's short operational time.
