Description
Cain Nightroad is a central antagonist and a figure of immense, almost mythical power within his narrative. He is known as Crusnik 01, the most powerful of the four Crusniks, and serves as the unseen leader of the Rosenkreuz Orden, a powerful terrorist organization. Physically, he is the elder twin brother of Abel Nightroad, sharing similar features but with long blonde hair and a tall, commanding figure, often described as a beautiful man. His appearance belies his true nature, as he is a being nearly a thousand years old, having been created in 2088 A.D. as part of the Mars Colonization Project.

Cain's personality is a study in contrasts, marked by a chilling duality. In his youth, he was known as a compassionate and sensible leader, holding an optimistic belief in humanity's ability to shape its own destiny. However, after a fatal accident, his sister Seth saved his life by injecting him with Crusnik nanomachines. While this granted him immortality and tremendous power, it also drove him irreversibly insane. In the present timeline, he often presents a facade of being happy, childish, and even aloof, at times seeming lost or foolish, such as when he asks a stranger for directions or casually comments on enjoying trivial matters like food. This surface-level pleasantness hides a profoundly broken and malevolent psyche. He feels no guilt or hesitation about destruction and slaughter, viewing life itself as a disgusting and unstable state of being, contrasting it with the serene stability of inanimate objects like wind, stones, and water. His ultimate, chilling motivation is the destruction of all living things, a goal he pursues with an angelic smile and a complete lack of empathy.

Cain's role in the story is that of the ultimate hidden threat, the mastermind pulling the strings of global terrorism from the shadows to bring about Armageddon. For most of the narrative, he is a presence felt more than seen, lending his fathomless power to the Rosenkreuz Orden. His personal history is intrinsically linked to the world's downfall. He was once the beloved leader of the Mars Colony, but following his insanity and the outbreak of war between humans and the vampiric Methuselah, he sided with the vampires. When Lilith Sahl, another Crusnik and a moderating influence on his brother Abel, questioned their path, Cain callously murdered her. In retaliation, a furious Abel and his sister Seth confronted Cain and threw him from a space station into Earth's atmosphere, where his body was burned to ash. He survived, but his body is now held together with difficulty, often breaking down and requiring extensive regeneration. Nine hundred years later, he resurfaced to co-opt the Rosenkreuz Orden, using it as his instrument for world-ending chaos.

His key relationships are defined by a twisted sense of family and absolute nihilism. As the elder twin of Abel Nightroad, Cain shares a deep and tragic bond. While he expresses a superficial happiness that his brother is doing well, his ultimate goal is to absorb Abel's body and power to perfect his own failing form, even managing to kill Abel in their first direct confrontation. He views his siblings not as family but as sources of power to be consumed, much like he did with Lilith. His relationship with his subordinates, such as Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer and Dietrich von Lohengrin, is that of a cruel master who views them as toys or disposable tools for his grand design. He is the only being that the otherwise fearless Dietrich fears.

Cain's development is largely a pre-story arc, a tragic fall from a gentle and wise leader into a millennia-old, insane force of nature. While he does not experience redemption or change, his physical state decays, forcing him to constantly seek ways to repair his body, eventually setting his sights on his brother Abel's form. His power, however, only grows more terrifying. His notable abilities are staggering. As a 100% fusion Crusnik, he is the pinnacle of his kind. In his human state, he can project invisible destructive forces and possesses superhuman strength. When he unleashes his true power, his lips and eyes turn red, his hands become blue claws, and he sprouts six magnificent white wings. In this form, he wields a black lance made of solidified blood and can generate waves of destructive red energy. His control over space and a corrosive ability make him virtually unstoppable, a perfect and terrifying enemy of the world.
