Description
Alcion Fama is a central character from the anime Geisters - Fractions of the Earth, serving as a member of the elite Geisters unit, an anti-creature special force operating under the Yuno family. He holds the rank of Lieutenant within this organization, which represents the Dobias faction in a cold war against the Shioru for Earth's remaining resources, all while humanity battles the predatory Siliconian creatures.
Alcion’s background is marked by profound hardship. He grew up in the slums of De Beers City, where he struggled to make ends meet as the primary breadwinner for his ailing mother. Nothing is known about his father, though Alcion’s mother instilled in him the belief that he was precious and should live with pride. He often told peers that his father was an aristocrat, leading to him being treated as a liar and bullied, strongly suggesting he was the illegitimate son of a nobleman. The death of his mother, his only family, from illness was a traumatic turning point that distorted his personality, fostering a deep sense of betrayal by a world that offered no aid and nurturing a growing hatred for the noble class he believed had abandoned them.
In contrast to his close friend and fellow Geister Dean Honos, Alcion is outgoing, hot-tempered, and possesses a strong desire for success and fame. This ambition, rooted in his painful past, creates a deep-seated inferiority complex, particularly towards Dean, who comes from a more privileged background. Alcion first met Dean and their captain, Leon, during his adolescence when he was part of a gang of neighborhood bullies robbing technical school students. Following Leon, who became like an older brother figure, Alcion eventually joined the Geisters.
Alcion’s role in the story is that of a tragic rival and a cautionary tale about the corrosive effects of ambition and trauma. His motivations are driven by a need to prove his worth and escape the shadow of his past, but this drive gradually leads him down a dark path. After Captain Leon is killed, Alcion is upset when Dean is appointed as the new commander. This resentment is exploited by Eresia Yuno, who is in charge of biosuit development. Alcion becomes her sole test subject for the powerful but dangerous biosuits, a role that accelerates his psychological deterioration. During these tests, he experiences hallucinations of his mother and suffers severe side effects, causing him to attack his own comrades. His inferiority towards Dean intensifies, and he eventually falls completely under Eresia’s influence, becoming her henchman and turning against the Geisters.
Key relationships define Alcion’s arc. His bond with Dean Honos is the most critical, evolving from childhood friendship to bitter rivalry fueled by jealousy. He shares a brotherly respect for the deceased Captain Leon. His relationship with Victor Deicius is marked by annoyance and conflict, while Eresia Yuno serves as his manipulator, preying on his vulnerabilities to turn him into a weapon. His relationship with the Shioru member Shai Tanna is initially hostile, reflecting his prejudices.
Alcion undergoes a significant and tragic development throughout the series. Starting as a promising but flawed soldier, he blackens progressively, culminating in a complete loss of humanity. After being equipped with an upgraded Megasuit and later a Giga suit, prolonged use causes him to undergo creatureization, stripping away his ego and speech. He devolves into a feral, bestial state, capable only of howls or uttering Dean’s name, consumed by hatred. After a final defeat against Dean, he sinks into the deep sea. In a strange turn, a Genesis-empowered Eresia revives the dying Alcion, and he later appears in her spiritual world as a baby. In the final episode, he is depicted living with the character Pira, though the scales on the back of his hand indicate he has become a half-creature human.
Regarding notable abilities, Alcion, as a Geister, is armed with powers, abilities, and weapons far beyond those of normal humans. His primary asset is his biosuit, a biological weapon that grants him immense combat prowess but comes with severe psychological and physical side effects. He later pilots upgraded versions, the Megasuit and the Giga suit, which further enhance his power but accelerate his creatureization and loss of self. His combat style is aggressive and ferocious, reflecting his volatile personality.
