Description
In the anime Soul Hunter, Daji, also known as Dakki, is the primary antagonist who has seized control of the Yin dynasty. Her background is rooted in supernatural evil; she is a demon, specifically a fox spirit, who has taken possession of a human princess. Using this human guise, she uses her charm and magical influence to seduce and bewitch the emperor, Chu-ō, effectively becoming his most trusted consort.

Daji’s personality is defined by her malevolence, cunning, and manipulative nature. While she presents a facade of beauty and allure, she is a ruthless and selfish being who delights in cruelty. Her reign is characterized by tyranny, as she uses her control over the emperor to plunge the land into famine, misery, and poverty for the common people while she and her followers live in opulence. Her intelligence makes her a particularly formidable foe, as she often outmaneuvers her enemies.

Her core motivation is the acquisition and maintenance of power. By controlling the emperor, she effectively rules the empire and uses her position to create chaos and suffering. She also commands a host of other evil immortals and demons who serve her, expanding her influence and terror across the land. She appears to revel in the decadence and control she holds, with little regard for the human life she destroys.

In the story’s overarching narrative, Daji is the central target of the Hoshin Project, a divine plan to seal away 365 evil spirits. The protagonist, Taikun (or Taigong Wang), is sent by the immortals of the Kunlun Mountains specifically to stop her. She is portrayed as the root cause of the empire's corruption and the source of the chaos that the heroes must resolve. Her presence is the catalyst for the entire quest, as defeating her is the ultimate goal required to restore order to the human world.

Her key relationship is with Emperor Chu-ō, whom she has placed under a spell of infatuation. He becomes a mere puppet ruler, blindly following her vile orders and allowing her to rule through him. Beyond this, she is the leader of a faction of perverted immortals and demons, making her the primary adversary for Taikun and his companions, including Naza and Coup de Tonnerre. Some sources also note she has sisters who serve alongside her.

In terms of development, Daji functions as a static antagonist throughout the series. She remains the powerful, unchanging force of evil that the heroes strive to overcome. Her presence is a constant threat, and the plot’s progression hinges on Taikun's journey to gain enough strength and allies to eventually confront and seal her away.

Notable abilities include powerful sorcery and the supernatural charm to ensnare the minds of men, as she successfully did with the emperor. As a fox spirit and an evil immortal, she possesses immense magical powers that make her a dangerous opponent, far outclassing the protagonist in their initial encounters. Her demonic nature grants her longevity and abilities far beyond those of a normal human, solidifying her status as the most dangerous entity Taikun must face.
