Makoto is a minor supporting character in the original Saint Seiya continuity, an orphan boy who lives at the Star Children Orphanage under the care of Miho. He is part of a trio of close friends alongside Akira and Tatsuya, and among them he is portrayed as the natural leader and the most mischievous of the group. Makoto and his friends share a strong admiration for the Pegasus Saint, Seiya, whom they treat as a hero and a role model.
