Description
Eagle Marin is a skilled and dedicated Silver Saint, bearing the constellation of Aquila, the Eagle. A Japanese national, she resides at the Sanctuary in Greece and holds the critical role of being the teacher of the protagonist, Pegasus Seiya. Her reputation as an instructor is one of sternness and severity, pushing her student through deadly rigorous training to cultivate his potential, yet this toughness consistently gives way to a deep-seated concern and protectiveness for his well-being.

Beneath her mask, which all female Saints must wear to renounce their femininity, Marin possesses an attractive and well-proportioned appearance with medium-length brown or orange hair. Her true face is never fully revealed in the original series, adding to her enigmatic nature. Her personality is defined by a strong sense of justice and bravery, driving her to defend the weak even at great personal risk. One of her most enduring personal motivations is the search for her long-lost younger brother, a quest that has spanned many years and deeply influences her actions.

Marin's role in the story evolves significantly from a loyal servant of the Sanctuary to a crucial ally of Athena and the Bronze Saints. Initially ordered by the corrupt Pope to assassinate the traitorous Bronze Saints, she instead defies the Sanctuary by using a deceptive technique, the Empty Fist, to fake Seiya's death and allow him to escape. When her betrayal is discovered by the mind-reading Hound Asterion, she is captured and used as bait. In a display of immense mental discipline, she empties her mind to negate his ability and defeats him with her most powerful technique, the Eagle Toe Flash, further solidifying her break from the Sanctuary.

Her most pivotal contribution comes when she undertakes a perilous journey to the forbidden Star Hill, a place reserved only for the Pope. There, she uncovers the corpse of the true Pope, Shion, proving that the current ruler is an impostor. This discovery is key to revealing the central conspiracy of the Sanctuary arc. During the final battle at the Twelve Temples, she risks her life again, giving her mask to the poisoned Seiya to act as a filter against deadly roses, an act that causes her to lose consciousness but ultimately allows him to continue his mission. Later, she embarks on a long journey not to find her own brother, but to locate Seiya's missing sister, Seika, whom she successfully finds and protects during the Holy War against Hades.

Key relationships define her journey. Her bond with Seiya is the most significant, evolving from a strict master-student dynamic to a familial one, with many initially suspecting she might be his long-lost sister, a theory that is ultimately disproven. She shares a complex rivalry with Ophiuchus Shaina, which begins with antagonism over Seiya but grows into a mutual respect and a cooperative partnership as they both become defenders of Athena. In some continuities, she also shares a deep connection with Leo Aiolia, who has shown concern for her and, in some interpretations, a romantic interest.

As a Silver Saint, Marin possesses combat abilities far superior to those of Bronze Saints, granting her superhuman strength, durability, and speed capable of reaching Mach 2 to 5. Her primary offensive move is the Ryu Sei Ken, or Meteor Punch, a rapid barrage of hundreds of punches that she taught to Seiya. Her signature and most powerful technique is the Eagle Toe Flash, a devastating aerial kick where she dives from the sky at supersonic speeds, striking the opponent with tremendous force. She also utilizes the Empty Fist, a non-damaging illusion technique used to deceive opponents into believing a fatal blow has been struck. Her intellect is notably high, as she was one of the first to deduce the Pope's treachery and realize Saori Kido's true identity as Athena. Throughout the story, Marin demonstrates consistent growth, not necessarily in raw power, but in her resolve, shifting from a follower of Sanctuary's will to an independent agent of justice who prioritizes protecting Athena and her students above all else.
