Description
Marin de Aguila is the Silver Saint of the Eagle constellation, a female warrior and one of the few Amazons in the twentieth century. She was born in Japan on March 18 and stands 1.67 meters tall. Her training took place at the Sanctuary in Greece, where she later became the mentor of Seiya, the future Pegasus Bronze Saint. Her name carries a meaning associated with a bell that announces misfortune, foreshadowing the cryptic nature of her past.
In personality, Marin is disciplined, rational, and highly perceptive. She possesses a calm and steady temperament, compensating for any physical inferiority against male Saints with exceptional agility and combat adaptability. She is deeply just and loyal to Athena, often acting as a quiet guardian to the bronze Saints despite her official rank. Her sense of justice and courage make her one of the most steadfast allies among the Sanctuary’s warriors.
Motivation drives much of Marin’s journey. She came to the Sanctuary searching for her younger brother, who disappeared when she was young. This search initially led many to believe she was Seiya’s lost sister, Seika, but the truth remains separate. Her brother, Tohma, later appears as a celestial knight serving Artemis. Marin’s dedication to Athena and her personal mission to protect Seiya often put her at odds with the corrupt leadership of the Sanctuary, especially after the false Grand Master, Arles, took power. She defied orders to eliminate the bronze Saints, instead faking Seiya’s death during a battle with Misty of Lizard to keep him alive. She also uncovered the true identity of the impostor Grand Master by climbing Star Hill.
Role in the story extends beyond being a mentor. Marin directly intervenes in several arcs. She defeats the Silver Saint Asterion of Hounds to save Seiya at Silver Beach. During the assault on the Sanctuary, she holds off the assassin Jaki to clear Seiya’s path and later helps Seiya cross Aphrodite’s rose path by removing her mask and placing it on him to filter the toxic pollen, though she does not reveal her face. During the Asgard conflict, she is defeated by Alberich of Megrez. In the Hades saga, she protects Seika alongside other bronze Saints until Seiya returns from the underworld. Her presence remains a steady support even in later storylines.
Key relationships shape her character. As Seiya’s teacher, she is strict but fair, instilling in him both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the cosmos and combat techniques. She holds a deep but unfulfilled romantic affection for Aiolia of Leo, a Gold Saint who reciprocates her feelings, though both remain bound by their duty to Athena and the sanctuary’s rules. She shares a rivalry with Shaina of Ophiuchus, another Silver Saint, partly because of their mutual connection to Seiya and the discrimination they faced as non-Greek Saints. Her brother, Tohma, is a poignant figure in her past, connecting her to celestial forces beyond the Sanctuary.
Development sees Marin grow from a stern, emotionally guarded instructor into a more openly protective figure willing to risk her status for her students and friends. Her personal mystery—the search for her brother and the reasons behind her mask—remains a defining thread. She does not remove her mask in the original story, adding an air of enigma even as she proves her loyalty.
Notable abilities reflect her rank as a Silver Saint. She can achieve speeds between Mach 2 and Mach 5, allowing her to deliver rapid attacks. Her signature technique is the Eagle Toe Flash, also known as Eagle Fire Flash, where she leaps high and delivers a devastating downward kick with the force of an eagle striking its prey, capable of stunning or even killing an opponent. She taught Seiya the Ryusei Ken, or Meteor Punch, a barrage of one hundred punches per second. She also employs the Kuken, an empty-fist illusion that mimics a lethal strike, and the Silence technique, which creates a mental void to block telepathic intrusion. Her mask itself serves a practical function, shielding her face from poisons or harmful environmental effects. Marin’s combat style combines speed, precision, and strategic adaptability, making her a formidable warrior despite being a Silver Saint in a world of Gold and divine opponents.
