Description
Daichi de la Tierra, also known as Daichi of the Fox, is a fictional character from the anime adaptation of Saint Seiya. He is one of the three original Steel Saints, a group of warriors created under unique circumstances. Daichi was chosen by Mitsumasa Kido and the scientist Dr. Asamori to undergo a rigorous physical training regimen. This program was designed to produce a new type of warrior who could support the goddess Athena and her Bronze Saints in battle, a mission that defined Daichi's purpose from the start.

Physically, Daichi appears as a young boy with a friendly and unassuming demeanor. He has short, lime-green hair and dark blue eyes, and is typically portrayed as the smallest and youngest-looking member of his trio, which includes Sho of the Sky and Ushio of the Sea. This youthful appearance belies his role as a trained combatant. His personality, while not explored in great depth, suggests he is a cooperative and dynamic individual, capable of working seamlessly with his teammates to achieve their objectives.

The motivations of Daichi are clear and directly tied to his creation. He was programmed in a sense by his benefactors to protect Saori Kido, the reincarnation of Athena, and to assist her Saints in their wars against evil. In the original series, Daichi and his companions first intervene during the battle against the Silver Saint Babel of Centaurus, turning the tide of the fight. They reappear later to aid Shiryu of the Dragon against Algol of Perseus, demonstrating their commitment as support forces. However, when Athena and her main army depart for the Sanctuary in Greece, Daichi and the other Steel Saints remain in Japan, effectively ending their active role in the classic narrative.

Key relationships define Daichi's place in the story. His most immediate bonds are with his fellow Steel Saints, Sho and Ushio, with whom he fights in perfect coordination. He also serves under and fights alongside the Bronze Saints, including Seiya, Shiryu, and the others, acting as a reliable ally. In the later spin-off series Saint Seiya Omega, Daichi is referred to as a Legendary Steel Saint. In this continuation, he maintains relationships with other warriors such as Kiki, Shaina, and former Bronze Saints like Jabu of Unicorn, showing his long-standing loyalty to Athena's cause.

Throughout his appearances, Daichi undergoes a notable development, particularly in Omega. While he remains a steadfast warrior, the limitations of his artificial Steel Cloth become a central challenge. These original Steel Cloths are incredibly powerful but place an immense strain on their users' bodies, causing them to fail after prolonged use. Despite this weakness, Daichi, alongside his comrades, continues to fight, demonstrating that their will and friendship can create a phenomenon known as an Indication of Omega, a powerful force that even they, lacking the Cosmos energy of true saints, can generate.

Daichi possesses notable abilities, though most of them are derived from his mechanical armor rather than an inner Cosmos. His most famous technique is the Steel Hurricane, a combined attack performed with Ushio (and sometimes Sho) where the two run in circles at incredible speeds to generate a powerful vacuum that can extinguish flames and suffocate enemies. His Steel Cloth, known as the Land Cloth, is inspired by the constellation Vulpecula, the Fox, and can transform into a motorized skateboard-like vehicle for high-speed travel. While some sources suggest his armor can generate earthquakes, this ability is never explicitly demonstrated in the anime. In Omega, his power has grown to the point where he is considered a legendary figure capable of engaging second-class Pallasites in combat, a testament to his enduring strength and experience.
