Description
Aioria de Leo is the Gold Saint of the Leo constellation, a central figure among the twelve protectors of the Sanctuary. He is a young man of twenty years, born in Greece on August 16, standing 185 centimeters tall with an athletic build of 85 kilograms. His appearance is very similar to that of his older brother, featuring short, wavy hair and green eyes, with a firm and imposing voice that reflects his dignity as a Gold Saint.

Aioria’s personality is defined by a powerful duality, making him one of the most noble and valiant of the Gold Saints. He possesses a warm, serene, and good-hearted character, making him approachable and easy to treat among his comrades. He is driven by a strong sense of justice and is always willing to fight for what is right. However, when the situation becomes extremely delicate or when evil is present, this calm demeanor transforms into something impetuous, violent, and aggressive, causing him to launch into an attack at the slightest provocation. This impulsiveness and lack of cold-blooded calculation often makes him seem irrational in certain situations, but it does not diminish his courage, which allows him to stand as an equal against even the most powerful Saints like Shaka of Virgo or Saga of Gemini.

The central driving force of Aioria’s life is the tragic fate of his older brother, Aioros of Sagittarius. When Aioria was only seven years old, his brother was posthumously accused of high treason for allegedly attempting to murder the reincarnated goddess Athena and stealing the baby from the Sanctuary. In reality, Aioros had died protecting the infant goddess from the false Pope, but this truth was hidden. As a result, Aioria was branded and marginalized as the brother of a traitor, a heavy burden that forged his character. From that moment, he swore to go to any lengths to clear his brother’s name and restore honor to his family, serving the Sanctuary with unquestionable dedication to achieve this goal.

In the main story, Aioria is initially sent to Japan with orders to eliminate Seiya of Pegasus and the other Bronze Saints. During this confrontation, he gravely injures Shaina, Seiya’s mentor, but is eventually confronted by Seiya wearing the Sagittarius Gold Cloth. The spirit of Aioros within the cloth helps Seiya fight back, leading Aioria to realize that the young girl Saori Kido is the true Athena. Upon returning to the Sanctuary to demand answers from the false Pope, Aioria is ambushed and mentally enslaved by the Imperial Demon Arrow, forcing him to serve evil until the moment a noble sacrifice breaks the spell. This release comes during the Twelve Temples battle when the warrior Cassios willingly throws himself onto Aioria’s attack to free him, allowing Seiya to continue his mission. Liberated and consumed with guilt, Aioria swears his absolute loyalty to Athena for the rest of his life.

Key relationships define his journey. The most important is with his deceased brother Aioros, who was not only his sibling but also his master and the ideal of a righteous Saint he strives to emulate. Despite the trauma, Aioria maintains a deep and profound respect for his brother’s memory. He also shares a close bond with the Bronze Saint Seiya, whom he consoled during his childhood training when Seiya suffered discrimination for being Japanese, a kindness that Seiya never forgot. Among the Gold Saints, he has a notable friendship with Milo of Scorpio, with whom he constantly argues but for whom he would risk his life, and a complex relationship with Shaka of Virgo, whom he initially resents for his arrogance but later earns mutual respect after protecting him at great personal risk in Episode G.

Aioria’s character development is one of redemption through truth. He evolves from a young man blinded by the need to restore his family’s honor through blind service to the corrupt Sanctuary, into a true warrior who fights for justice directly under Athena. He is one of the few Gold Saints to survive the initial Sanctuary arc, but meets his end alongside the other eleven Gold Saints at the Wailing Wall in the Underworld. There, they all sacrifice their lives to destroy the wall and create a path for the Bronze Saints to reach the Elysian Fields for the final battle against Hades.

As a fighter, Aioria is one of the most physically powerful Gold Saints, specializing in devastating lightning-based attacks that move at the speed of light. His signature techniques include the Lightning Bolt, where he concentrates his cosmos into a single point and releases a tremendous spherical energy discharge that destroys everything in its path. His most powerful attack is the Lightning Plasma, in which he unleashes a million punches per second that cross each other, forming an inescapable net of energy lines that tear the enemy apart. In the spin-off Episode G, he demonstrates a supreme forbidden technique called Photon Burst, which converts his cosmos into thousands of stars that adhere to the enemy and disintegrate them from within. He is also one of the three Gold Saints capable of performing the forbidden Athena Exclamation, a technique with destructive power equivalent to the Big Bang.
