Description
Kanon, known as the Sea Dragon, is a pivotal character who serves first as a loyal subordinate to the god Poseidon and later as a Gold Saint of Athena. He is the younger twin brother of Saga, the Gemini Gold Saint, physically appearing nearly identical to him with long blue hair and turquoise eyes. Kanon’s existence remained a secret within the Sanctuary for many years, making him a hidden asset and, ultimately, a dangerous conspirator.
Thirteen years before the main story, Kanon’s ambition drove him to propose a sinister plan to his brother. He suggested they kill the infant Athena and take control of the Sanctuary, believing their identical faces would allow them to rule unnoticed. In stark contrast to his brother’s dark side, which emerged from a split personality, Kanon’s entire being was consumed by malice and a lust for power. Horrified by this proposal, Saga imprisoned his own brother in the Cape Sounion prison, a dungeon meant for traitors that regularly flooded with seawater. Despite his repeated near-deaths by drowning, Kanon was unknowingly saved each time by the divine cosmos of the infant Athena, who pitied him from afar.
His escape came when he discovered a hidden passage behind his cell, revealing the legendary trident of Poseidon. Pulling the weapon from its seal, Kanon was dragged into the undersea realm of the god. There, he found the Amphora containing the dormant soul of Poseidon and callously broke its seal. Seizing the opportunity, Kanon tricked the awakened god, presenting himself as one of his missing Generals and donning the Scales of the Sea Dragon. He was appointed guardian of the North Atlantic Pillar and became the de facto leader of the Marinas, all while secretly planning to manipulate Poseidon’s host, Julian Solo, to conquer the world for himself.
Throughout the Poseidon arc, Kanon acts as the master strategist for the god’s army, embodying cunning and ruthlessness. His role intensifies when Ikki of Phoenix confronts him. Kanon attempts to banish Ikki using his Golden Triangle technique, a dimensional attack similar to his brother’s "Another Dimension." However, Ikki returns and forces the truth from Kanon using his own mental attacks. Exposed as the mastermind whose schemes caused the entire war, Kanon faces ruin as Poseidon’s true will finally awakens. In a crucial turning point, he learns that the cosmos that saved him in prison was Athena’s. Consumed by regret, he chooses to atone, taking a blow from Poseidon’s trident to protect the goddess he once sought to kill.
Kanon’s development culminates in the Hades arc. Having been accepted back into the Sanctuary by Athena, he aims to reclaim his brother’s former position. His loyalty is tested by Milo of Scorpio, who, distrusting the former traitor, strikes him with the fourteen life-threatening Scarlet Needles. Kanon endures the punishment without resistance to prove his sincerity, earning Milo’s respect and recognition as the true Gemini Saint. He uses his psychic powers to defend the Twelve Temples, creating illusions to delay the resurrected Specters. His newfound commitment is absolute, contrasting starkly with his previous villainy.
Kanon’s motivations evolve from pure, megalomaniacal ambition to a fierce desire for redemption. He is driven to prove his worth to Athena and his deceased brother, showing a personality rooted in pride, superiority, and cruelty, but later tempered by discipline, courage, and remorse. He develops a key relationship with his brother Saga, transforming from a mutual adversary to a tragic legacy-bearer. He treats the Bronze Saints, particularly Ikki, with grudging respect, while his former ally Sorento of Siren becomes his adversary upon discovering his betrayal.
Renouncing his life to fulfill his duty, Kanon journeys to the Underworld wearing the Gemini Gold Cloth. There, he single-handedly defeats numerous Specters. His final confrontation is with Rhadamantys of Wyvern, one of Hades’ mightiest judges. Realizing the other Gold Cloths are needed to destroy the Wailing Wall, Kanon removes his own armor and sends it away. Then, with his bare hands, he grapples Rhadamantys, unleashing the Galaxian Explosion, an attack of supernova force. Both warriors are obliterated in the blast, marking a sacrificial death that cements his legacy as a true hero.
In battle, Kanon wields tremendous psychic power and techniques inherited from the Gemini constellation. He rarely uses the Golden Triangle, a dimensional prison. His primary offensive technique is the Galaxian Explosion, a cosmically destructive attack. He also employs the Genma Ken, a fist that inflicts terrifying illusions to extract information or paralyze foes. Like his brother, Kanon possesses immense telekinetic abilities, allowing him to control his armor and create complex illusions from great distances.
